Dear Brothers,
Personnel Assignment
Fr. James Schimelpfening will be serving the greater Church in his new appointment at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. He will be serving as the associate director of Spiritual Formation. The appointment begins on August 1.
Tuesday’s Announcement of Vows
If you have not had the opportunity to read Tuesday’s message about those approved for renewal of vows and perpetual vows, please take a moment to
read the announcement. One correction in the announcement, I stated that the perpetual vow Mass would be held as part of the directors meeting. I inadvertently listed the wrong city. The directors meeting is in St. Louis this year. My apologies for any confusion.

Dear Brothers,
A Story of Hope and Joy
Submitted by
Rev. Paul Fitzpatrick
, director of the Academic Formation of the Permanent Deacon Candidates for the Diocese of Honolulu
Coordinating the Academic Program for the last three groups of Permanent Deacon Candidates and their wives for the Diocese of Honolulu and teaching them the five Scripture classes has been an abiding satisfaction. Faithful in Church attendance their whole lives, the candidates and their wives arrive with many questions about the Scriptures they’ve been listening to for many years. They are environmental engineers, county road repair men, blood lab technicians, optometrists, just to name a few of their professions.
My ministry has allowed me to help them learn how to open windows into the meaning of the text. They are very appreciative when they learn how to unpack its interconnected parts. I have been able to introduce them to the cultural world of Jesus, so different from our own. This ministry offered the opportunity for us to explore the communities receiving the texts: their “issues,” challenges, concerns and conflicts, both within each community and as members of the larger complex Greco-Roman culture and political system of their day. It has allowed me to prepare not only ordained, but also lay ministers who are directors of Religious Education, RCIA directors and coordinators of Adult Faith Formation in their parishes. When I let go of directing this program, I will have trained about 37 men to preach in the Diocese of Honolulu. The men and their wives seem very grateful and I consider this an undeserved gift from God for which I will be thankful for a long time to come.

As
Fr. Tim Kenney
mentioned in
Notes from the Provincial Council,
March 7-10
was our spring formation weekend.
Sr. Joyce Ann Zimmerman, CPPS,
presented on prayer, Liturgy of the Hours and the Eucharist. Another highlight of the trip was listening to
Fr. Ray Malley, Bros. Ed Shiras

John Samaha

|
|
|
After formation weekend, I drove up to Archbishop Riordan High School with
Bro. Jesse O'Neill
to meet with the school administration, the MIT team, campus ministry and the LIFE student leaders.
|
|

On March 21-24, many from the Province, our ministries and the Marianist Mission participated in the annual LA Religious Education Congress. I am especially grateful to
Srs. Gabby Bibeau
