  • June 6: CMSM Meeting, St. Louis
From Fr. Tim Kenney
Dear Brothers,

Recent Happenings

  • Gathering in Saint Louis, MO, of the vowed and lay Marianists for conversation on our Province Directional Statements. This was a great time of affirmation and grace.
  • A visit to Guatemala to work with Bro. Bill Farrell on some health issues. Bro. Bill has decided to return to our Care Center in California to undergo tests. Bro. Bill has touched many lives over these years with his missionary efforts and spirit.
  • An all day meeting with Bro. Jack Ventura. We continue to look at ways in which we can promote our Marianist Family, planning for the summer retreats that we are coordinating together and looking to the future.
  • Missionary Preaching in parishes. Summer is a great time to be able to share our charism and raise money for our missions.

Let us pray for our many jubilarians who will be celebrating this Saturday in Cupertino, CA.

Let us pray for our Church as we celebrate Pentecost this Sunday. Come Holy Spirit!
From Bro. Jesse O'Neill
Dear Brothers,

From the Office of Sponsorship

Each of our sponsored schools enters into a four-year agreement with the Province on how they will enliven the Marianist charism at their institution. This four-year mission integration process ends with a visitation and evaluation of the sponsored ministry. This year three schools received the visitation. The visiting team meets with various members of the sponsored ministry to evaluate progress made in implementing the Mission Integration Plan and to suggest areas of focus in developing the next four-year plan. The results of these visits are documented and shared with leadership of the sponsored ministry. The Office of Sponsorship selects and trains the members of the visiting team.

On March 3-7, 2019, Chaminade College Preparatory, Chatsworth, CA, was visited.  John Marshall, principal of Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School, Dayton, served as the chairperson of the visit. Assisting in the visit were Kris Ranciglio, St. Mary’s High School, St. Louis; Alex Datoc, Archbishop Riordan High School, San Francisco; and Nick Kheriaty, St. John Vianney High School, St Louis.

On March 10-13, 2019, Saint Louis School, Honolulu, was visited.  Bill Raddell, Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School, Cleveland, served as chairperson of the visit. Assisting in the visit were Luis Guerra, Chaminade College Preparatory, West Hills, CA, and Sr. Nicole Trahan, FMI, Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School and Director of Education of the Marianist Sisters, Dayton.

On April 29-May 2, 2019, Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School, Dayton, was visited.  Matt Dailey, Chaminade College Preparatory, St. Louis, served as chairperson of the visit. Assisting in the visit were Carol Lamont, Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory, Hollywood, FL, and Bro. Adam Becerra, fsp, Chaminade College Preparatory, West Hills, CA.

We are very appreciative of those willing to serve and be part of the visiting team. Those schools visited and those as participants on the visiting team always learn something new to share with their respective ministries to nurture and grow the Marianist charism.
Office of Vocation Ministry - Bro. Mark Motz
Dear Brothers,

Vocation News

May began with the celebration of Religious Brothers Day on May 1. I celebrated the day with jury duty but several other brothers celebrated in different ways. Thanks to all who sent photos. Several brothers, including Bros. Earl Leistikow and Brian Zampier and Fr. Jim Mueller, joined the celebration in San Antonio and Bro. Bob Dzubinski was interviewed for the Catholic Telegraph, which you can read here
At the end of the end of the academic year, I talked to many contacts and inquirers in order to reassess where they are and how they want to stay in contact with the Vocation Office. I am always reassured by the amount of young people that have been influenced by our charism and are dedicated to it.

On May 11, I gave a presentation to a team of Vocation Promoters in the Archdiocese of San Antonio on the Essential Elements of Religious Life. They later asked me to give the talk two more times to different audiences. It is a wonderful opportunity to share our charism with those in our diocese to help promote vocations.
In mid-May, Maimoa Finesaloi (Chaminade University Campus Minister),  Bro. Brandon Alana (University of Dayton Campus Minister) and I took a group of four students from each university for a common immersion experience. We focused on service (with focus on domestic violence, serving meals at the Catholic Worker kitchen and transitional housing center called Union Rescue Mission), encounter (cultural diversity, gang member rehabilitation at Homeboy Industries) and education (two middle schools and Chaminade College Preparatory, West Hills, CA). We also talked extensively about the Marianist charism, vocations and post grad service with the Lalanne and West Hills communities and Maureen O’Rourke from Marianist PULSE. Read more on the blog.
On May 30 we released a video version of the letter to young people from the General Chapter. If you have not seen it, you can view it here. This video was posted on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram and between the three platforms, this video was viewed over 22,000 times.
