Dear Brothers,

More on protection of children and vulnerable adults

Let us join Pope Francis in his call for prayer and penance, prayer for healing of victims and of the Church. In his " Letter to the People of God," Pope Francis also went on to state, “This can awaken our conscience and arouse our solidarity and commitment to a culture of care that says ‘never again’ to every form of abuse.”

I’m asking that all communities devote a part of their daily prayer time and a practice of penance during the week of September 3. I ask directors to let me know what you are planning.

Once again, I invite you to join me in prayer as we pray for victims of abuse, perpetrators and for all of us. We pray that we as Marianists will help to provide a safe environment for all those entrusted to our care.

Yesterday, I released a message for all our schools, parishes and ministries dealing with our efforts as Marianist to protect those entrusted to our care.

Please read the letter .

A reminder about the news media

As we all know, the issue of abuse has been in the media recently. This also means the media will go to many different methods to get a comment or look for a story. Please remember that, if you are contacted by a representative of the media asking for comment on a story, please direct them to the Marianist Provincial Office in St. Louis. The appropriate number is 314.338.7218 and the email address is [email protected] .

In addition, please be aware that, when you post on any social media platform, you are posting on behalf of the Marianists and the Church as well. Many people will perceive it that way. Represent yourself and these entities well.

Prayer for Labor Day
“On this weekend, when we rest from our usual labors, and from all of our ministries as a Marianist Province, loving God, we pray for all who shoulder the tasks of human labor—in the marketplace, in factories and offices, in the professions and in our community-family living.

We thank You, Lord, for the gift and opportunity of work; may our efforts always be pure of heart, for the good of others and the glory of Your name.

We lift up to You all who long for just employment and those who work to defend the rights and needs of workers everywhere.

May those of us who are now retired always remember that we still make a valuable contribution to our Church and our world by our prayers and deeds of charity.

May our working and our resting all give praise to You until the day we share together in eternal rest with all our departed in Your Kingdom as You live and reign Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.”

A Story of Hope and Joy

-Submitted by Mr. Mike Loyet – president of St. John Vianney High School

By striving to live a life of gratitude, it is pretty simple to walk the halls of Vianney and find hope. Where? Let’s start in the faces of our students who dream of a future full of opportunities and goodness. Daily, they stroll this campus that we refer to as "holy ground" with a servant attitude of "I can and I will. " The Marianist refer to this as "Do whatever He tells you..."

Then, there are the incredibly dedicated, knowledgeable and passionate faculty and staff members who have committed their lives to forming young men. How can that not radiate hope! The adults sacrifice their own self desires and time with their family and loved ones to help mold young men. And the parents who sacrifice so much to send their precious sons to this Catholic, Marianist school; they, too, work for and dream of a blessed future for their children. One by one, looking into the faces of our students and adults you can't help but soak up a world of hope and thus experience joy as a member of the Vianney Family.

I Can I Will Attitude - Do Whatever He tells you

If you have encountered a moment of hope and joy at one of our schools or retreat centers, please send it to me so we can share it with the province!!
