News for members of the Marianist Province of the United States
March 23, 2017
From Fr. Martin Solma

Dear Brothers,

Council meeting

The Provincial Council meets this week to address a full agenda.

Some of our topics include:
  • Requests for renewal of vows and the beginning of seminary studies.
  • Corporation meetings for Chaminade College Prep-St. Louis and the Marianist Retreat & Conference Center.
  • Review of the budget for fiscal year 2018.
  • Consultation for new community director appointments.
  • Review of the work of the recent Provincial Chapter and the Extended General Council in Rome.
On Friday evening, we will hold the Bicentennial Area Gathering for the Marianists in St. Louis. Thank you for your prayerful support of our meeting.

Bro. Darwin Joseph

Many of you know Bro. Darwin Joseph, the newly appointed assistant district superior for India. On March 29, Darwin will defend his dissertation for his doctorate in philosophy at Assumption College in Bangkok.

He is the first member of the District of India to pursue a doctorate; please pray that he is successful. Darwin was tutored for his initial degree in philosophy (from Saint Louis University) by Fr. Joe Lackner.

Chapter report correction

In the Provincial Chapter Report (page 8, commentary on Proposition #2), the last line should indicate that the present Provincial Council concludes its service in July 2018, not 2017.

Saturday and the spirit of Mary

Saturday, March 25, is the Feast of the Annunciation and patronal feast of the Marianist Family.

Let us join in praying for all those who find their life, vocation and inspiration in the Marianist spirit, which is the spirit of Mary.

From Fr. Bill Meyer

Dear Brothers,

Update: Saturday's Brothers Symposium

The National Symposium on the Life of the Religious Brother at the University of Notre Dame is this Saturday, March 25.

More than 215 people have registered for the event, representing 32 different communities of men and six communities of sisters, as well as other diocesan and faith-based organizations.

For those not attending in person, CMSM has arranged for the keynote address, opening prayer and closing remarks to be videotaped. Once the video has been made available, I'll let you know how you can view it.

In addition, Notre Dame will be live-streaming the closing Mass. Cardinal Joseph Tobin, CSsR, will be the main celebrant and homilist.

Watch the live stream video here on Saturday at 5 p.m. Eastern time.

More information is available on the symposium webpage
