News for members of the Marianist Province of the United States
March 2, 2017
From Fr. Martin Solma

Dear Brothers,

Provincial Chapter begins tonight

The delegates to the Provincial Chapter will gather this evening at the Marianist Retreat and Conference Center in Eureka, Missouri. Our agenda is full. The various reports and proposals are on the portal; I urge you to read what is posted there.

Thank you to the area coordinators for arranging the pre-Chapter meetings around the Province, and for the reports that were submitted. The Chapter delegates will review these early in our meeting.

Most of all, please pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the presence of our Blessed Mother during the coming days.

Fr. Dave Paul

As a Province, we will bid farewell to Fr. Dave Paul on March 11.

Dave has been key to a number of development efforts, especially in securing a major gift to the Province three years ago.

More recently, he helped develop and promote the "Partnering with the Poor" program supporting Marianist schools in India and Africa. This program was dear to Fr. Dave's heart. We are grateful for his life and vocation as we commend him to the love and mercy of our Lord.

Dear Brothers,

ICCR updates

The Province continues active engagement with the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR), seeking to hold large companies accountable for human rights and environmental justice issues.

Three updates:
  • Exxon recently agreed to appoint independent climate expert on board of directors. Learn more.
  • Our Province recently endorsed a sign-on letter to Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, regarding legislation that would require large companies to report on their efforts to address slavery and child labor. Read the letter.
Homily helps

Here are homily resources from members of the Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM) and other people of wisdom. The resources connect the lectionary to topics of social justice. If you are not a homilist, please consider sharing with someone who is.

CMSM is also looking for more people to help write these resources. Interested? Please contact Mark Peters.

March 5 - John Donahue, SJ
