Notes of the Advocate

Dear People of the Advocate,

Tomorrow we will continue our worship online via zoom at 10:30 am with a format that may seem a bit more familiar to many. We will be utilizing onscreen slides for ease in fully participating in the liturgy, and will be led musically both by our virtual choir and by our fabulous music leader, Erica Fedor. You can find the link for the service below.

Also, Screenside chats will resume on February 6th following the 10:30 am worship service with our first topic: worshipping in the time of COVID.

And if you are looking for a small group to join for fellowship and learning, read below about how you can take part in the upcoming round of Advo-groups.

Peace to you all, and try to stay warm!

Advo-Groups

It's time to sign up for Advo-Groups again! Do you like to laugh with people you love? Are you craving growth in your spiritual awareness and practices? Got some extra time to knit or crochet? Or would you enjoy exploring questions around death and dying with a trusted group of friends? If so, then Advo-Groups are for you! These groups meet via zoom, for four to six sessions, and are organized around prayer and transformative conversation. Follow this link to sign up! Registration closes Monday, January 24 and groups begin the first week in February.

Fold and Field Update

Work on the Fold and the Field continues, as construction of the Fold has begun and the Field is moving through the design and permit process with the Town.

At the start of the project, we set a goal of $225,000. The actual costs are moving targets, as costs fluctuate, designs adapt to those fluctuating costs and Town requirements, and volunteers step up to do some of the work.

We won’t know until April, really, what the actual costs will be for the whole project, but we have reason to believe that they will come in close or even under that $225,000 goal.

Thanks to the generous response of the people and friends of the Advocate, to date, we have raised $155,000 in gifts and pledges.

At the January meeting the Vestry will determine what portion of existing capital funds will be used towards the project. (Note that all along the vestry assumed that funds from our “savings” would be used to this end). We have applied for a $10,000 grant from the Diocese, and we hope to hear by the first of April if we receive that grant. If we get the grant and pledges are all paid, we will have $215,000 towards the project.

The Vestry will provide an update on income and expense for the project in April, when we hope the Fold will be completed and the Field well underway.

Volunteers for the Fold can sign up with Nate Bradford, and we still hope to have a Saturday or two for cutting small hardwoods from the Field site for future use in the bread oven.

Prayer

Compline each evening at 8:30pm via zoom.

What is compline? Compline is the last set prayer service for the day. It is typically prayed before bed or when settling down for the evening. You can check out the liturgy here.

Contemplative prayer meets each Wednesday at 6pm with a group in person in the chapel (wearing masks and distanced) and on zoom. (Contact Marion to get the zoom link)

Collect (KOL-ekt)

The Second Sunday after the Epiphany

Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
