The United States military has fought and paid dearly to ensure that innocent people are no longer terrorized and cold-blooded killers' plans to harm Americans come to naught. Thanks to our military's sacrifice, ISIS is on the run and no further attacks on our homeland have come from Afghanistan. These brave heroes need to know that we have their backs.

For far too long, our nation has sought to balance our budget on the backs of these men and women. A few weeks ago, I voted for a bipartisan bill to stop this gross negligence. The cost of freedom is high and our soldiers are fighting on two fronts despite failing equipment and inadequate training. They deserve better.

I decided to cast our district's vote with our military men and women. They should not be asked to risk their lives without adequate equipment and the training they need. The bipartisan budget deal increases funding for our troops for two years so we can modernize our platforms, rebuild troop end strength, and address the readiness shortfalls from the past.

The sacrifice of our soldiers reminds us that freedom comes at a significant cost. Our freedom to speak, worship, work, live, and pursue our happiness would not be possible without their sacrifice. It is vital that we never forget this.

America must continue to fight terrorist thugs overseas so that we do not fight them here at home. This was not a war of our choosing, but it is a war that we must win. Our fellow citizens willing to give the ultimate sacrifice in our defense deserve nothing but the best we can give them. Anything less from us would mean we are not living up to our end of the agreement. I am glad Congress made the decision to, once again, make providing for the common defense a priority again.

Onward,
