Dear Trocaire College Students:
We wanted to provide you with current information about two timely topics that may be of interest to you as emerging healthcare professionals:
I. Availability of Vaccination for COVID-19 – for Healthcare Personnel
Vaccination for COVID-19 has begun in Western New York. A phased approach is being used, and New York State is currently in Phase 1A. This document explains how the vaccination is being prioritized and delivered.
We have been informed by the Council on Independent Colleges and Universities that the NYS Department of Health confirmed that students on clinical rotations who have patient-facing roles are eligible to be vaccinated now.
If you fit that description, you may fill out THIS FORM to be notified about vaccine appointment availability; check the option for “All Outpatient/Ambulatory front-line, high-risk health care workers of any age who provide direct in-person patient care, or other staff in a position in which they have direct contact with patients (i.e., intake staff).”
II. Request for Voluntary Vaccinators – Students in Health Professions Fields
Separate from the notice above, NYS is seeking students in health professions fields to volunteer to administer COVID-19 vaccinations in their communities. If you are willing to volunteer, complete this survey.
Survey responses are due by today, Friday, Jan. 8 (although volunteers will continue to be accepted after that date as necessary). Your information will be shared with NYS officials. Vaccination locations are still to be determined, but students would be matched with a location that is local to them, whether they are studying on campus or remotely during the spring semester.
Eligible students include those enrolled in the following programs:
- Nursing programs
- All nursing graduate students – Master’s, DNP, DNS, PHD
- All RN to BSN students
- Baccalaureate – 2nd semester juniors and beyond (all who have completed a clinical practicum)
- Associate – 2nd semester sophomores and beyond (all who have completed a basic skills training and a single clinical practicum)
