Notice of the Annual General Meeting (“AGM”)

Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 6:00 P.M. (Toronto time)


NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that an AGM of the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto (“SABA Toronto”) will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 6:00 P.M. (Toronto time) by electronic conference (the "Meeting"), for the following purposes:

 

1.    to receive and consider SABA Toronto’s annual financial statements for the financial year ending January 31, 2023;

2.    to elect up to eight (8) directors for a two-year term; and

3.  to transact such further or other business as may properly come before the Meeting (or any adjournment thereof).

 

Members of record as of the close of business on Thursday, July 13, 2023 shall be entitled to vote at the Meeting.


All members of SABA Toronto, and in particular those members unable to join the Meeting, are encouraged to vote in advance and at their earliest convenience by dating and signing the form of proxy (click here for a copy) and returning it to their proxyholder in .docx or PDF format.

EVENT DETAILS

Registration is located in the main foyer. Please enter through the main entrance off Lake Shore Blvd. West and proceed to the check-in table. No ticket is required - simply quote your name or firm to complete your check-in. 

 

COCKTAIL 

5:30 PM to 7:00PM

This year we will have an extended cocktail/networking session at Palais Royale’s 4000 square foot two-tier lakeside terrace, overlooking the beautiful views of Lake Ontario. 

Please remember to dress for the weather. Evenings on the lake can be a little cooler.

 

DINNER & AWARDS CEREMONY

7:00 PM to 9:30 PM

 Plated 3-course dinner, and awards ceremony indoors in the Palais Royale Ballroom.

 

AFTER PARTY NETWORKING 

9:30 PM to 11:30 PM

Please join us after dinner on the Lakeside Terrace for some entertainment & late night snacks.

GETTING TO THE VENUE

 

PLEASE NOTE: ROAD CLOSURES ON LAKE SHORE BLVD. WEST BETWEEN STRACHAN AVE & BRITISH COLUMBIA ROAD

 

Please adjust travel times accordingly to account for road closures where necessary.

 

From the West

Take the Gardiner Expressway East & exit at Lake Shore Blvd. East.

Stay in the left-hand lane & look for the Palais Royale signage.

Immediately after Palais Royale, make a left (where U-turns are permitted)

onto Lake Shore Blvd. West. Access to parking lot is only from

Lake Shore Blvd. Westbound.

 

From the East

Take the Gardiner Expressway West to the exit at Dunn Ave. / Jameson Ave.

Stay left for Lake Shore Blvd. West & stay in the left hand lane.

Palais Royale parking is on the left side with signage indicating the entrance.

  

PARKING

 

Free Parking is available at the venue – accessible from Lakeshore Blvd.

Student Liaison Positions: Call for Nominations - July 14

Are you a student looking to build connections, create networking opportunities, and become involved in the largest South Asian Bar chapter in North America? If so, SABA Toronto is looking for driven and passionate students to fill its Student Liaison positions described below.


All positions will be voluntary for a term of 1 year. The positions are:

1) Student Marketing Liaison


2) Student Membership and Advocacy Liaison


3) Student Social and CPD Liaison


Eligibility: To be eligible you must be a student enrolled in a LLB, JD, or LLM program, and be a member of your school’s SALSA chapter.

SABA ACCOMPLISHMENT CORNER

Congratulations to Madam Justice Renu Mandhane on receiving the Pioneer Award which will be presented at the SABA North America Conference in Boston on July 22nd.


Justice Mandhane will also be the keynote speaker at the conference gala!

Congratulations as well to SABA President, Devin Persaud, who will be receiving one of the Rising Star Awards
