Upcoming MDOT Field Work in Virginia
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is advancing the development of a new American Legion Bridge and continues to make progress on expanding multimodal transportation options along the I-495 and I-270 corridor. As part of this initiative, MDOT SHA will continue field work to gather data in Virginia. The upcoming field investigations include:
-
April 22 through May 30: Project staff will conduct geotechnical borings to confirm the soil type and conditions at the American Legion Bridge approach to the Potomac River. All investigations will be within the existing VDOT right-of-way along Live Oak Drive and I-495 with the boring locations being adjacent to and under the existing bridge.
I-495 Southbound will be used for equipment mobilization and demobilization. Project staff will access the site from Live Oak Drive and will be dropped off and picked up to minimize community disruption. During these times, you may observe staff along Live Oak Drive, within the nearby VDOT right-of-way, on the Potomac Heritage Trail, or near the Potomac River.
For any questions or concerns, please contact the American Legion Bridge and 270 Corridor project team at 410-637-3300 or 833-858-5960, or email ALB270@mdot.Maryland.gov.
