All members of the Invasive Species Council of BC are invited to join us for the 2019 Annual General Meeting at the Pacific Gateway Hotel in Richmond, BC. The AGM will include a financial report, election of Directors and a report on the past year’s progress of the Council. Please join us on February 6 at 8:30 am.

The Western Governors' Association was established in 1984 to represent the Governors of 19 Western states and 3 U.S. territories in the Pacific. The association is an instrument of the Governors for bipartisan policy development, information exchange and collective action on issues of critical importance to the Western United States.
Bill Whitacre manages the "Biosecurity and Invasive Species Management Initiative” of Hawaii Gov. David Ige. The Denver native’s portfolio includes forestry, fire management, grazing, and invasive species. Join us at INVASIVES 2019 and hear from Bill on the topic of

Updates on INVASIVES 2019 Indigenous Workshop, Feb 4, 2019

The Indigenous Land Stewardship & Traditional Uses: Building Tools, Networks & Support for Invasive Species Management W
orkshop will bring together Indigenous communities and organizations from across BC to review work that the Invasive Species Council of BC and the Indigenous Invasive Species Network have accomplished and share knowledge and experiences around invasive species management and business/funding opportunities. Please note that this workshop is open to Indigenous organizations and individuals only. The workshop takes place at the Pacific Gateway Hotel in Richmond the day prior to the INVASIVES 2019 Forum and AGM.

Travel Subsidies for Indigenous People
A limited number of travel subsidies are available for Indigenous people planning to attend the workshop. We are committed to enabling a broad and diverse representation to attend. These travel subsidies are intended to ensure that organizations that would not otherwise be able to attend will have an opportunity to participate in the workshop, have their voices heard, and engage in the discussions.
Travel subsidies will cover a portion of the cost of attending through a cost sharing arrangement between ISCBC and the traveler. Apply now as space and funds are limited! Travel subsidies are available on a pre-approved basis. Please email Jake Archie at

Aquatic Invasive Species Workshop News
|
|
Are you interested in knowing the latest approaches and ideas to tackle aquatic invasive species (AIS) in BC? Join us on Thursday, February 7 for a full-day Aquatic Invasive Species Workshop, hosted by ISCBC and Government of BC. Workshop participants will:
- Learn about collaboration on AIS prevention for priority species and pathways;
- Get updates on the BC Invasive Mussel Defence Program compliance and enforcement;
- Meet BC’s Conservation Officer Service new AIS Detection Dog: K9 Major;
- Learn how to identify an aquatic invasive mussel;
- Learn about the provincial lake monitoring program and the state of the science around the use of eDNA as a future tool in AIS early detection monitoring.
Thanks to funding from the Province of British Columbia the workshop registration fee has been discounted to just $25 + tax.

INVASIVES 2019 Call for Abstracts Deadline: Jan 15!
Are you working on a project involving invasive species or conducting research on invasives? Submit your poster abstract for the chance to showcase your work at INVASIVES 2019. Posters are on display throughout the Forum and presenters stand by their posters for discussion during the reception on the evening of February 5th.

Japanese Beetle Education Opportunities in Vancouver
Japanese beetle is an invasive plant pest that was detected in British Columbia for the first time in 2017 in the False Creek area of Vancouver. The adult beetles attack the flowers, foliage and fruit of more than 250 plant species, while the larvae feed on the roots of turf grass and other plants. Japanese beetle poses serious environmental and economic threats within BC. In 2018, partners including
Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, City of Vancouver and the Invasive Species Council of BC collaborated on management efforts
to quickly treat and contain the beetle.
ISCBC Is offering Japanese beetle education and outreach opportunities to interested groups. Event options
range from casual discussions to more formal presentations and are available in the Vancouver area January - April. Opportunities are still available for events in January!
