Delta Independent Science Board Meeting

The Delta Independent Science Board will meet on April 22, 2024, at 9:00 AM to discuss its reviews and activities. This will include a discussion of its reviews of subsidence, food webs, and decision-making under deep uncertainty in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

Additionally, the Delta ISB will hear from new and outgoing Delta ISB support staff. Incoming California Sea Grant State Fellow Margot Mattson will present an overview of her past research, areas of interest, and what she hopes to learn from her work with the Delta ISB. Dr. Lillian McCormick and Dr. Kristine Grace Cabugao will reflect on what they learned from their work as the Delta ISB’s postdoctoral scholars and on their independent research.

Recent Products

The Delta ISB submitted a comment letter on the draft Cyanobacterial Harmful Algal Bloom (CHABs) Monitoring Strategy for the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, the development of which was facilitated by the Delta Science Program.

The letter states that the strategy provides a valuable overview of 1) many of the environmental drivers impacting the occurrence and severity of CHABs and current monitoring programs and 2) the heterogeneity of conditions as they pertain to the incidence and severity of CHABs.

However, the Delta ISB also noted several elements that could strengthen the draft and encouraged the authors to consider incorporating these elements as they prepare the final version of the strategy.

The Delta ISB meets monthly. The public may observe and participate in the meeting either in person at a location listed in the notice or via Cal-Span or Zoom.

The Delta ISB advises the Delta Stewardship Council and provides oversight of the scientific research, monitoring, and assessment programs in the Delta through periodic reviews.
