DPIIC Restoration Subcommittee Meeting

The Delta Plan Interagency Implementation Committee's Restoration Subcommittee will meet on March 7, 2024, from 1:30 to 4:00 PM at the California Natural Resources Agency (715 P Street, Sacramento, CA 95814).

Staff from the Delta Stewardship Council, California Department of Water Resources (DWR), and State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways will present and discuss successes, challenges, and adaptive management needs related to the control of invasive aquatic vegetation in Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta restoration projects. The meeting will also include summaries and updates on the 2023 Delta-Suisun Tidal Wetland Restoration Symposium held November 1, 2023, and the second Delta Restoration Forum held November 2, 2023.

Members of the public may attend the meeting in person or virtually via Zoom.

In case you missed it, the second Forum built off the first Delta Restoration Forum, held in February 2023, by focusing on sharing project-specific information, providing a format for public participation, and connecting with project proponents. Attendees met project leads and learned about restoration in the Delta and Suisun Marsh, including recent and potential projects, funding programs, and opportunities for landowners to implement wildlife-friendly practices.

Are you new to ecosystem restoration?

Ecosystem restoration is the process of returning a degraded or fragmented ecosystem to a more natural state. It takes into consideration the changes that have occurred in the past as well as the future impacts of climate change. In addition to providing habitat for numerous species, a functioning ecosystem can benefit the human communities who live and spend time in the Delta and those that use its water by helping to reduce flood risk, improve public access, lessen the impacts of extreme heat, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 

With support from the Council and the Delta Conservancy, the DPIIC's Restoration Subcommittee envisions a Delta ecosystem that supports the mosaic of natural and human communities, is resilient to stressors, adapts to change, and is accessible for recreation. The Restoration Subcommittee's work is guided by its Workplan, adopted in 2022.

The DPIIC strives to facilitate Delta Plan implementation through collaboration in support of shared national, statewide, and local goals for the Delta. It explores opportunities to align efforts, showcases achievements, and guides actions to address pressing issues in the Delta.

DPIIC agencies are vital to making progress toward achieving the coequal goals. Management of the Delta involves numerous stakeholders and competing interests. Progress requires bringing the right people together to implement timely, science-based solutions.
