Notice of October 3-4
Delta Independent Science Board Tour & Meeting
The Delta ISB will meet from October 3-4, 2024. On October 3, the Delta ISB will tour Rindge Tract and Staten Island. At Rindge Tract, the Delta ISB will learn about how crops that are more typical of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta lowlands are farmed and how traditional irrigation and drainage methods are employed. At Staten Island, the Delta ISB will learn how the land is managed to support wildlife-friendly agriculture to protect migratory bird habitat and about the challenges of subsidence. To help with planning, please email disb@deltacouncil.ca.gov by noon on October 2 if you plan to attend the tour. See day one’s meeting notice.
On October 4, the Delta ISB will meet at the Ryde Hotel to discuss its reviews and activities, including debriefing on the public field tour and the Bay-Delta Science Conference. In addition, Delta Stewardship Council staff will present the public review draft of its Tribal and Environmental Justice issue paper. The draft is out for public comments until November 4, 2024. In early 2025, the Delta ISB plans to organize and host a public symposium on the current state of climate science and to understand how organizations in the region are considering climate change. At this meeting, the Delta ISB will discuss the draft prospectus for the symposium, which will be part of a public Delta ISB meeting. See day two’s meeting notice.
