LeBron James is widely recognized as the most consistent NBA All-Star of all time. His remarkable career includes 22 consecutive All-Star selections. An NBA record that showcases his excellence over the years. Another very consistent high-level all-star is Michael Jordan. In his 14 years playing in all-star games, he averaged over 30 points a game. Both players worked extremely hard over the years to do the things necessary to be all-stars for so many years.
As athletes, we notice all-star players. We can learn a lot about hard work, commitment, high-level attitude, playing as a teammate and being consistent over time. In every practice and every game, others notice us. Coaches, teammates, fans and even our opponents notice how we act and play. As we play at higher levels, more and more noticing happens.
In the Bible, Joseph chose to live right. As a teenager he believed that the highest way to live daily life was to be obedient to God and honor Him in everything. He learned hard work. He acted fairly and kindly to others. He didn’t try to cut corners or cheat others. After he was sold into slavery, he served Potiphar, a high-level leader in Egypt. Because Joseph was a young man of integrity and he worked hard, followed orders and instructions he earned Potiphar’s respect. Joseph was put in charge of everything.
On a more important level, God noticed how Joseph lived his life. God blessed Potiphar’s house (everything Potiphar owned) because of Joseph. This was a testimony to how Joseph acted and lived. God blessed Joseph and gave him even more honor and respect. Joseph was truly an all-star in God’s eyes.
There is another Bible verse that tells us about how God looks for people like Joseph. 2 Chronicles 16:9 it says, “For the eyes of the LORD roam throughout the earth to show himself strong for those who are wholeheartedly devoted to him.. . .” Did you catch it? God is looking all over the world to find people who have chosen to live devoted to Him. He’s looking for All-Stars.
