Young Professional Training:

Preparing Our Students for NDCR's Unique Corporate Work Study Program

The NDCR Young Professional Development Training Institute is an intensive two-week program planned and facilitated by CWSP staff, corporate partners, and volunteers to create and implement a curriculum that prepares all students for success at their corporate jobs. NDCR focuses on Personal Development, Business etiquette and Entry Level office skills. NDCR students are taught everything from Appearance and First Impressions to problem solving and networking. Towards the end of the training, students sit with professionals from all fields and go through several interviews to put their new skills to the test. NDCR is blessed with an incoming group of Freshman who show promise and are ready for the workforce!

Incoming freshman are lead through this training by Student Ambassadors who commit to being at NDCR for the entire two-weeks. They are role models, set the expectations and are responsible for their groups' schedules and daily reflections. In the closing ceremony, Student Ambassadors share their experiences, highlight stand out students and give out certificates of completion.

Incoming Freshmen, Jostin Jimenez bravely volunteered to speak in one of his classes. He set the bar high for himself, sharing that "In the next four years I intend to increase my grades, so I'll be able to grow as an individual." He plans on participating more and taking notes. He knows that "this may be a difficult challenge", but he will be able to "overcome and persevere the hardships". No wonder the Student Ambassadors recognized Jostin has a standout star throughout the training! He is but one of 80 incoming students who are ready to shine. Here's to September, and here's to the Class of 2028!

Emmanuel College:

Notre Dame High School Leadership Conference 2024

The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur hosted their annual conference for student leadership at Emmanuel College from June 24-27, 2024. In the article," Notre Dame High School Student Leadership Conference Inspires and Uplifts", NDCR student, Arthiery Rosario, says the conference has changed the way he thinks about leadership and confidence. "A huge thing I learned is that you have to put yourself out there," he reflects, "if you don't put yourself out there you won't get as much out of the situations, you're in. People are usually friendly and welcoming."

He was one of eight young scholars who represented NDCR at the conference. Students were chaperoned by Dean of Students, Bailey Magazzu and history teacher, Justin Olson. Mrs. Magazzu spoke of the powerful "Blessing of the Hands" ceremony where the students processed one by one to have their hands blessed by their chaperones.

More than a hundred students and their teachers and chaperones joined our Sisters for several days of workshops, uplifting speeches, prayer, community service—and a little downtime at a ballgame at Boston's famous Fenway Park!

SUMA 2024:

Student Union for Mission Alignment Conference

"The SUMA conference was an amazing experience and an amazing way to step out of my comfort zone. Not to mention it was an amazing city with a lot to explore and it helped me kick off my summer feeling at peace. The workshops and the activities were engaging, and I never once felt bored. I felt that I was right where I was meant to be and I'm glad I was given the opportunity to attend. SUMA was 100% worth it, and I would love to go again next year!" --NDCR student, Shemill Cabrera, who represented NDCR, as well as fellow student and Class 2025 President, Aurelina Mercedes and Vice Principal, Mabel Dominguez.

Cristo Rey Kansas City hosted the 5th annual Student Union for Mission Alignment (SUMA) Conference from June 17th-19th, (Rockhurst University Campus), There were 22 Cristo Rey schools in attendance -the largest in SUMA history! It is a three-day conference where the students and participating Cristo Rey Network staff focus on College Initiatives. This year's logo and t-shirts were inspired by Juneteenth colors: red, yellow, and green. The final day of SUMA were filled with Juneteenth celebrations and some free time to explore the RU campus.

Students attended workshops where they heard from an Alumni Panel, the Rockhurst Counseling team, and Sonya Ramirez (Network Director of University Partnerships). The main topics students discussed were being open about fears regarding college, dreams for our future, and the good that comes from getting a college degree. Students traveled to the Kansas City Royals Stadium (A KC CWSP Partner!) for a personal tour, and dinner as well!

Our gratitude to CRISTO REY KANSAS CITY for hosting this year!

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT:

NDCR ALUMNI COMITTEE CONTINUES TO SHINE!

The NDCR Alumni Committee CONTINUES TO SHINE. Kelvin Martinez, NDCR '11, Shelby Morales, NDCR '21 and Dorian Straker, NDCR '13 really stepped up to the plate! They hosted a BBQ and Ice Cream Sundae bar for NDCR's newest alumni: The Class of 2024! It was important to the committee to celebrate their newest members and make "Yearbook pick up" a special event. They grilled and hosted a sundae bar that had every topping imaginable! This event brought together graduates both old and new to celebrate their shared connection to the school and to foster a sense of belonging within the alumni network!

The Alumni Committee would like to THANK:

Student Ambassadors, Juliana Sanchez and Christopher Pham (both Class of 2025) for all of their hard work for this event!

CAMPUS UPDATES!

NDCR is looking good! The efforts of Campus Facilities make our school not just a place of learning, but a place of beauty and pride. The work of Alex Rosario and Leo Marizan is essential for creating a positive and inviting atmosphere. They have been painting, making updates throughout the buildings and outdoor areas! Six classrooms also received new carpeting!

Our Director of Technolgy, Frank Vasquez has transformed the IT office! It looks amazing - complete with octagonal lights! Be sure to stop by if you are in for a tour.

A very special thank you to Kevin Powers for his tireless volunteer hours and talent to landscape and plant our newest roses bushes.

The NDCR family is blessed to have such incredible people in our COMMUNITY.
