COVID-19 Vaccine Updates
County Employee Vaccine Requirement

Beginning this Fall, all Fairfax County employees will be required to be fully vaccinated or submit weekly COVID-19 testing as a condition of employment. Employees who request an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or religious reasons will be subject to the weekly testing requirement.

The COVID-19 vaccine is widely available, with many places offering same-day appointments and walk-in services. Please visit www.vaccines.gov to find a location near you or visit the Health Department website.

COVID-19 Vaccine Third Dose

As of August 13th, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Virginia Department of Health (VDH) now recommend a third dose of an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) for people who have moderately or severely compromised immune systems.

You may find some answers to frequently asked questions here: COVID-19 Vaccine Third Dose FAQs - Fairfax County Emergency Information (wpcomstaging.com)

Additionally, COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for everyone 12 years and older, including those who are pregnant, breastfeeding or would like to get pregnant. The rise in COVID-19 cases, low vaccine uptake among pregnant people, and the increased risk of severe illness during pregnancy make vaccination more urgent than ever. Health Department Accepting Requests for Vaccine Services

Businesses and community event organizers can now request to host a vaccination team to provide COVID-19 vaccines or education/outreach services.

Cases in the Fairfax Health District are continuing to increase with the spread of the Delta variant, which spreads more than twice as easily as previous variants. Most transmission is happening among the unvaccinated and in areas with low vaccination rates, making it more urgent than ever to get vaccinated if eligible. If you are a business owner or event organizer and are interested in increasing vaccination rates in our community, submit a request to the Health Department here.
Emergency Rental Assistance
Fairfax County is administering relief for renters experiencing a negative financial impact due to COVID-19 pandemic through the NEW Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program.

Through this program, you can apply (or your landlord may apply on your behalf) to receive funds to pay delinquent rent or utility arrear payments back to March 13,2020, and up to three months of payments into the future to maintain housing stability. The total payments may not exceed a total of 15 months of rental assistance per household. Individuals who have previously received assistance from Fairfax County may apply again through this new program.

Immigration status, previous assistance and current employment are not barriers to assistance. Each case is assessed individually, and assistance is provided based on eligibility requirements. More info here.
