Dear Kind Supporters,

I have had the great pleasure of watching our Annual Fundraising Gala grow alongside our organization over the past five years. I revel in this opportunity to meet face-to-face with so many fantastic supporters to celebrate Nourish Now's accomplishments in food recovery over the past year.  With our 5th anniversary around the corner, I wanted to share a quick story that highlights how far we have come as an organization. Let me take you back to May of 2011, Nourish Now, Week 1:

After filing all of the proper paperwork, it was time for our first official food recovery mission. I drove my Honda Accord (no Nourish Now van yet!) to Panera Bread in the Kentlands at 9pm on a Thursday night. Minutes later my car was filled to the ceiling with bags and bags of bakery items. Surrounded by the appetizing aroma of bread and bagels, I headed to a local shelter. Upon arriving I immediately felt a connection to the people, sharing quick and excited conversations about this perfectly fresh food that would have gone in the trash just an hour before. This very first Nourish Now donation sparked an array of emotions that set the course for our journey. 

Now in 2016, we have a refrigerated reefer van and box truck dedicated strictly to the recovery of fresh food from over 130 restaurants, caterers and other types of food donors! 
This amazing progress is due in large part to the generous support we receive during our Annual Gala and throughout the year. "A Night in Vegas!" 2016 is focused on the expansion of our food warehouse and office space, as well as the hire of a full-time Social Worker to monitor the needs of each of over 500 families we serve monthly. We plan to double our food handling capacity, while developing a system specific to each family with a goal of achieving monthly food security. Food Donor Spotlight
Already this year, we have received over 2,000 pounds of donations from Occasion's!
Occasion's Caterers is one of DC's premier catering companies. They prepare gorgeous gourmet food for events all over the area. Since May of 2014, we've been receiving calls before and after large events ( that means nights and weekends ) to pickup all the food that never reaches the serving floor. The first time we saw the beauty of this partnership, hundreds of pounds of steaks, chicken, appetizers, salads and more were donated to those staying at the  Gude Drive Men's Shelter  and other shelters in Montgomery County . Being able to provide such high-quality food to the homeless and to others in need is what our mission is all about.

gourmet food waste is being halted and rerouted to those experiencing food insecurity in Montgomery County!

2,000 Likes!
We began February by surpassing 2,000 Likes on Facebook. This may sound trivial to some, but the support we receive through social media and other web outlets keeps us motivated to find new food donors and strive to bring freshly recovered food to those in need.

Donate Your Produce
Have you heard of  Ample Harvest ? Nourish Now is a proud member of this awesome organization that aims to connect food pantries with fresh produce from a variety of food growers including home gardeners, school gardens, farms and commercial growers. Charities and community members can sign up for free and be directed to the nearest outlets and sources for local produce.

As Spring warms us and plants come into bloom, we would love to see our supporters sign up to donate the fruits of their labors! And we promise to make the process as painless as possible!

New Food Donors
February started off with a marathon  Restaurant Week collaboration thanks to  amazing
restaurants all over Montgomery County and  the Spotluck team. Here is a list of some of the new food donors we took on this month:

We also began receiving sizable donations of fresh produce from Cooseman's DC during February.

Thanks to all of these donors for pledging support of our mission to end food waste and hunger in Montgomery County, MD and beyond!
