Director's Note
Dear Kind Supporters,

I would like to thank all of the amazing volunteers, food donors and supporters of Nourish Now for continuing to make 2014 an incredible year of giving back to our community. We are excited to be planning for our annual "A Night in Vegas" Fundraiser on June 7th at VisArts in Rockville Town Center. It will be a night you surely will not want to miss. Great food will be provided by High Point Catering and we're really looking forward to having Top Chef All Star Spike Mendelsohn as our special guest! Also a huge thank you to all of the Honorary Committee Members who have supported our mission and will be attending the event.

We are truly grateful to be the beneficiary charity for the Black's Family Foundation "Kitchen to the Pin" Golf Tournament. If you're a golfer looking for a way to give back to your community, we'll see you at Hampshire Greens Golf Course on May 19th. For last minute tickets please go to: https://www.blacksfamilyfoundation.org/calendar/

I am happy to announce the following new food providers who have joined us in our mission:

New Donors

Thank you once again to all of our supporters and we are looking forward to an amazing summer of rescuing unused fresh food and making people and families throughout our community food secure!
Brett Meyers
Executive Director of Nourish Now

Now that the weather is warming up, it's event season which for us means that food rescue missions are kicking into high gear. Continuing donors such as High Point Catering, have been calling us weekly to pick up the unused fresh food from their events. Donors recently added to our Food Donor Network including Corcoran and Occasions Catering have begun donating beautifully prepared dishes, which we are overjoyed to bring to our clients.

April was the busiest month yet for Nourish Now this year. On the 6th, Executive Director Brett Meyers, Assistant Director Nick Ring, and Board Members Thomas Albero, Jack Bell, Lisa Goldberg, Michael Holstein, and Jeff Williams attended "Away at the Bay," the Restaurant Association of Maryland's (RAM) 60th Annual Awards Gala. Needless to say the food was outstanding, and the scenic Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort in Cambridge, provided a relaxed atmosphere. Representatives from the state's best known restaurants, catering companies, food providers and distributors were present to accept awards, network, and show off a little bit.

Congratulations to Michael Holstein and the team at Quench for winning the Wine and Beverage Program of the Year Award for 2014. Last year they received honors for Best New Restaurant in Maryland 2013. These guys know what they're doing.

Special thanks to Thomas Albero of Alliance Material Handling for bringing Nourish Now to the table for this prestigious event.

For the 2nd year in a row Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School assembled macaroni and cheese cooking packets through Outreach, Inc. Through an effort called Kids Care, this organization helps to orchestrate large volunteer projects where participants package fortified meals to alleviate childhood hunger in local communities and around the world. The macaroni and cheese is being donated to children, families and individuals throughout the county. Thanks CESJDS for your commitment to end hunger in Montgomery County!

On April 9th, our walk-in freezer was being built in our Rockville facilityThe freezer unit was funded by a grant received through the Montgomery County Food Recovery Working Group, and nearly doubles our capacity for cold storage. During the construction of the freezer, Topline Express called Nourish Now with a donation of 7,200lbs of surplus cauliflower. Because these two events coincided, we directly donated the produce to Manna Food CenterAfter the day's excitement, we went to celebrate at Potomac Pizza in Kentlands with a Community Fundraiser Night.

In our ongoing collaboration with So What Else Helps, we provided food for their annual Spring Break Out Olympics on April 18th. Ingredients and kitchen space were donated by Hot Breads. Then our volunteers made over 300 sandwiches to be served for this fun event. Teams from local community centers competed against each other in football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, kickball, baseball, STEM experiments, cooking competitions and more. This event kicked off the start of So What Else's Prince George's County summer camps. Click here for the full summer camp schedule.

On April 24th, our Assistant Director, Nick Ring, represented us for High Point Catering's yearly Open House. It was a beautiful day for the event with a variety of outdoor attractions including moon bounce and other inflatables, climbing wall, popcorn machine, photo booth and caricature artists, along with representatives from companies that provide entertainment and venues for High Point events.

In other news, our annual fundraiser "A Night in Vegas" is less than a month away, and tickets are selling steadily. We have all of the attractions in line: food from High Point Catering, table games by Ultimate Amusements, special guest Chef Spike Mendelsohn, and prizes donated by local and national businesses, all for your enjoyment in the beautiful venue, VisArts Rockville. We have a growing list of sponsors at various levels helping us to make it possible to bring "A Night in Vegas" to our supporters in Montgomery County, MD.

Food Donor Spotlight
You may remember us mentioning Holly Poultry around Thanksgiving last year. These local chicken distributors made an extraordinarily generous donation of 600 chickens to Nourish Now for the Holiday Giving Project of Montgomery County. Their November donation helped us to serve 300 families in the Silver Spring zip code 20903, and more throughout the county. We were extremely grateful at that time. In April, Holly Poultry began making large regular donations to Nourish Now. This additional source of protein is invaluable to those we serve. The chicken is being distributed to those individuals, families and food assistance nonprofits that we serve throughout Montgomery County.

Thanks to the awesome folks at Holly Poultry!
