Nourish Pierce County

December 2024 Newsletter

Hello Ken,

Last week I shared some difficult news with you about our partnership with the City of Tacoma. After decades of partnering to feed people in need in Tacoma, we have unfortunately found out we will not receive funds in 2025. This has hit us hard and has left a $120,000 gap that we need to fill.

Since I sent out that message, we have seen an outpouring of support from our community, and I could not be more grateful. It brings me joy to see our community come together like this. If you did not get a chance to read my message you can find it here.

Thank you for supporting Nourish in our time of need. I am asking you to please send my letter to your friends and family, share the impact Nourish has had on you, and encourage them to spread joy this holiday season by giving a gift that feeds their soul and feeds people in need.

Gratefully,

Sue Potter

Looking for a way to give that benefits you?

Consider giving in a way that benefits both you and the people we serve. Here are some smart, tax-advantaged ways you can make a year-end donation:

1. Donate through your IRA or QCD (Qualified Charitable Distribution)

If you're 70½ or older, you can make a tax-free donation directly from your IRA to Nourish through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). This allows you to:

  • Avoid taxes on the distribution: The amount donated counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), but it's not considered taxable income.
  • Support a cause you care about: Your donation goes directly to providing food and vital services to those in need.

A QCD is an effective way to reduce your taxable income while making a significant difference in your community.

2. Donate Stock

Donating appreciated stock is another powerful way to contribute to Nourish this year. By gifting stock directly, you can:

  • Avoid paying capital gains tax on the appreciated value.
  • Receive a charitable deduction for the fair market value of the stock at the time of the donation.

This type of donation allows you to give more and reduce your taxable income. Plus, it helps ensure that families in need have access to nutritious food as we enter the new year.

For more information on how to give through these channels, talk with your financial advisor or you may contact us at (253) 383-3164, development@nourishpc.org, or visit our website. Thank you for your continued support!
