We are grateful for you this holiday season, and we are especially thankful for being able to gather around our tables once again for Thanksgiving. We love the chance to celebrate farm-fresh, healthy food, our farmers and farms, and all that has made Limoneira not only a workplace, but a family of beloved team members. And, most importantly, we are grateful for you! We so appreciate your being here this and every month, allowing us to share our passion for citrus and all things Limoneira. This month, we hope you’ll kick off your holiday season with Limoneira’s latest and greatest – including mouth-watering recipes and fun updates!

Limoneira's Latest
The pandemic made many businesses reevaluate how they’re going to operate and create revenue. Many had to recreate new revenue models, and Harold Edwards, President and CEO, took Limoneira into new areas to creatively navigate the unfamiliar terrain. Harold has piloted 128-year-old Limoneira into a new era, leveraging existing assets into a real estate enterprise dedicated to supporting its workers and creating sustainable communities, which also coincidentally provided new revenue and ways to keep Limoneira at the head of innovation. Check out this in-depth podcast, seeing how Harold breaks down the key components behind Limoneira’s most recent successes. For almost 30 years, Harold has been at the forefront of agribusiness; developing strategies to increase revenue, alongside delivering top-quality product around the globe. To find out more on how Harold and Limoneira are staying one step ahead of the curve, listen in!

More Leadership
Limoneira understands the value of having a team of thought-leaders who offer diverse perspectives and a wealth of business expertise and insight, and Limoneira is thrilled to announce the appointment of Elizabeth (Beth) Mora to the Company’s Board of Directors. This creates a team of 11 directors who will help guide Limoneira through new challenges.

Ms. Mora brings 30+ years of expansive industry experience, financial acumen and ESG expertise, and Limoneira recognizes her as a valuable addition to Limoneira. Ms. Mora is known as a strategic thought-leader and a champion for diversity and inclusion, and her guidance and leadership will be instrumental as Limoneira continues to evolve as a company.

Staying Healthy
Great news for the females in the Limoneira workforce! Director of Human Resources Debra Walker was thrilled to announce the Mobile Mammogram program, brought back again this year to provide greater service and health to the fabulous females. Debra shared, "We brought back the Mobile Mammogram this year and plan to continue this annually as a workplace benefit to our employees. We want to improve access to mammography and as an added bonus, our employees don’t have to take time off of work to get the testing. Anything that makes it easier for our employees to take care of themselves and their health is a benefit to us!" In addition, Limoneira had a team come out to administer COVID vaccines and booster shots for all employees that wanted them.

Industry News
Great news for Limoneira, which is buzzing around the industry! Limoneira will see an increase in citrus volume of about 45% in 2021-22, thanks to gains in bearing acreage and grower additions. Alex Teague, Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President, said how specialty citrus variety volume is up about 20% for Limoneira compared with a year ago. Additionally, Limoneira will be focusing on health-marketing, adding more to its budget by almost 20%. The drought and water shortages in California have unfortunately stressed fruit production, increasing costs by approximately 15%, so unfortunately there will be shorter navel and mandarin volumes overall. So, make sure you stock up when you see them in your local retail stores.

While we all love a traditional pie at Thanksgiving, we highly recommend you elevate the classic pumpkin pie with this new version: the Orange Hazelnut Pumpkin Pie! Limoneira orange juice, coconut sugar and just enough pumpkin spice mixed with delicious pumpkin filling makes this pie extra special. It’s sweet, delicious yet gluten and dairy-free! See how the hazelnuts toasted on top make this pie even more beautiful to serve as your Thanksgiving dessert!

Girl Power!
Women in Ag unite! We are thrilled to share that Laura Miller, Food Safety Manager, Limoneira, has been profiled by Ventura County as a leading woman in ag! Laura says, "I currently teach food safety policies and practices to people of all levels within our organization. I work with people at each step, from the harvest workers, farm workers, packing house workers, supervisors, managers, and executives.” And, yes, we keep her so busy! Laura also commented, "Although I am a woman in a male dominated industry, I have found that most people are very respectful. I constantly remind myself to be true to my authenticity and the value that I bring to the table. It is important to surround yourself with strong women role models and actively seek mentors to continue learning and thriving.” We love the more dominant role that women are playing in agriculture, and we are thrilled that Laura is receiving some recognition that is well deserved!

What in the World?
The heaviest pumpkin is 2624 pounds, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, and was grown by Mathias Willemijns of Belgium in 2016. Pumpkins that are this big, this ginormous, are typically laying on their sides and collapse due to their own weight. Growing huge pumpkins has only become a recent tradition since the 1970’s, and with modern farming technology and advancements in cross-breeding, pumpkins have gotten increasingly huge! Wouldn’t it be fun to know how many pumpkin pies could be made from this? Maybe Guinness will report on that NEXT year!
