Call-A-Thon Breaks Record
The 2013 Iowa 4-H Foundation Call-A-Thon has reached a new milestone. Members of The Iowa State University Collegiate 4-H Club have raised a record breaking $27,345 for Iowa 4-H'ers thus far.  This amount surpasses the 2012 record which was $21,251. WOW! Great job, 4-H'ers! They have 5 more weeks of calling for this semester.

Under the direction of ISU Collegiate 4-H Programming Chair and Foundation student employee, Ashley Kinkade, current ISU Collegiate 4-H Club members take time out of their busy evenings to call prospective supporters of the 4-H mission to "Make The Best Better."  Thank you to The Iowa State University Collegiate 4-H Club members for all they do to assist with the Call-A-Thon annually!

North Central Region Executive Director's Summit

The Iowa 4-H Foundation hosted the 2013 North Central Region Executive Director's Summit from November 13-15. Nine Executive Directors, including our very own from the Iowa 4-H Foundation, Kris Fish Kuhlmann, attended this annual event.  It was hosted at the Butler House Bed and Breakfast in Des Moines which is owned by former Iowa 4-H'er and state 4-H officer, Clark Smith and his wife, Lauren.

Executive Directors from the following 4-H Foundations were in attendance: Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

During the summit, Executive Director's focused on professional development and discussed ways that they can support the 4-H program in their state and learned from each others' fundraising successes.

"It is always motivating and inspiring get together with colleagues from other states to discuss ways that we can help to make the best better for our 4-H'ers," said Iowa 4-H Foundation Executive Director, Kris Fish Kuhlmann.

During their visit to Iowa, they enjoyed dinner at Django in downtown Des Moines and an evening reception at Terrace Hill, The Governor's Mansion.

Thank you to all who were able to attend this year's summit. We had a great time getting to know you, and we hope that you benefited from your trip in every way possible. We can't wait for next year in Missouri!

Servant Leadership

"We must be silent before we can listen. We must listen before we can learn. We must learn before we can prepare. We must prepare before we can serve. We must serve before we can lead."
--Captain William Arthur Ward

This past month, Iowa has had the premiere privilege of hosting Executive Directors of 4-H Foundations, from the twelve-state North Central Region of 4-H.  Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota all joined us for an opportunity to "retreat" from the day-to-day to immerse ourselves in professional development as well as forecasting solutions to finance the future existence of the 4-H Opportunity in our various states.  We were generously treated at the beautiful Butler House Bed and Breakfast, graciously served by Lauren and Clark Smith.  This "serving" allowed us to be our best to so we could open up ourselves to  the serving we are presently doing, and aspire to do more of, back in our home states.

A Day of Giving
Black Friday...Cyber Monday... Giving Tuesday
The Iowa 4-H Foundation has joined Giving Tuesday, the first of its kind effort that will inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to charities, such as the Iowa 4-H Foundation, to make the best better.
Taking place on December 3, 2013, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday will harness the power of social media to create a national movement around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.
How do you give? The Iowa 4-H Foundation, a 501(c)3 charitable non-profit, is a registered partner with Giving Tuesday. Please join us and help us fund opportunities for Iowa's 4-H Youth. On Tuesday, December 3, 2013, visit our website to make your tax-deductible donation.
Thank you, for helping to make the best better for Iowa's 4-H Youth!
