What's New: President Sara's Message, Special Zoom Announcement, Snail Articles Needed, SUDS Photos, GOTR Photos

What's Happening this week: Christmas in November
Message from President Sara Beacham
Greetings!

What a wonderful weekend! It was the perfect weather for running and for cheering on the runners. SI Chico participated in another hands-on project on Saturday at the Girls on the Run 5K, which we were also a sponsor. It was great seeing so many girls and their running buddies complete their program with a 5K run around Bidwell Park.

And the fun continues this week at club! It’s here!! Christmas in November is this Wednesday at 12:00 noon. Be sure to let Kathy know if you’re coming and how many guests are coming with you. I will start the Zoom and wander through all the amazing items that are up for sale. For those of you on Zoom, let a friend at club know what items you want to bid on once Zoom ends.

Next week is Thanksgiving week. There will be no club lunch, and hopefully, most committees won’t meet next week to give us all an opportunity to be with our friends and family. I am looking forward to some time off (I’m taking the entire week off!) I honestly can’t remember the last time I had an entire week off to do nothing, which means I will probably be doing all the things that I have been putting off, like cleaning. We will get back together after the holiday for our regular business meeting on Wednesday, December 1.

Until then, let’s shop!!

See you Wednesday!

President Sara
Special Zoom Announcement: President Sara will start the Zoom call, will show all the items and then will sign off. There is no way to do Christmas in November on Zoom and accept bids. If anyone on Zoom wants to bid, have a fellow Soroptimist, attending the event, communicating with you on items and bidding.

Bring your Christmas spirit and HAVE FUN….

November SI Chico Fur Baby (and Member) of the Month!

I am happy to introduce myself to all of you Soroptimists! My name is Sophia and I’m a Havanese. I just celebrated my 10th birthday. Fun fact: I share the same birthday with my mom … but she’s much older than 10. My breed is the national dog of Cuba so I can handle humidity and heat due to my unique coat of silky hair. My kin were bred for aristocrats and lived in palaces and estates. I might not live in a palace but I’m spoiled just the same. My family says I walk like a snob due to my hind body being slightly higher than my front, which makes my walk quite pretentious! I was born to be a companion dog and I take my job very seriously. I live in Chico with my family, and my mom Lupe is a Soroptimist which keeps her very busy planning fundraisers. While she works, I lay at her feet to keep her company. My favorite activity is to cuddle and my favorite snack is cheese. If you come to visit, I will be your instant best friend and bring you all my toys because after all, anybody entering my home is there to see me, right?
My name is Lupe Medrano and I am one of your Director Delegates and Fundraising Co-Chairs for the year. I was born and raised in the little town of Colusa about 50 miles north and attended college at Chico State. I graduated with a degree in Child Development and Psychology and with baby #1 on the way. My plan was to stay home until my daughter started school – but by her first day of kindergarten, baby #2 was on the way! My husband and I just celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary and I have had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom and working as a volunteer through every stage of my children’s lives. My daughter is now 22 and my son is 16 and after what seems like a life-time of volunteering in my children’s activities - PTOs, Girl Scouts, National Charity League and soccer leagues – it’s time to focus my attention on volunteering in my own club with my own interests. My good friend Bonnie Chapman introduced me to SI Chico in 2018 and I have been an active member since. I enjoy reading, crafting and traveling and hope to continue to be active in this club for many more years.
