Message from President Sara Beacham

|
Greetings!
Hello Soroptimist Sisters! How did we get to November already? I was just getting used to October. I guess time flies when you’re having fun, or when you have a lot to do. October was a busy month, and November is shaping up to be the same. However, there is some time for us to slow down as we approach the holidays. I plan to take an entire week off during Thanksgiving week, which if you know me, is unheard of! I can’t wait.
Coming up in November before the break, we have our business meeting on November 3, an RN and respiratory therapist from North Valley Health Education Foundation, and Christmas in November on the 17th. I may or may not be already listening to Christmas music (I can neither confirm nor deny this). I am making my Christmas shopping list. We will be dark the week of Thanksgiving.
Also in November, we will be helping with the Butte Humane Society Grand Opening, where we will have a membership booth and help with the kids’ bounce house (check your email for the sign up genius). We have another After Hours, a SUDS, and possibly another GTKU. Lots of great things with membership.
The Live Your Dream Award deadline is also in November – November 15. Spread the word about this award for women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families and are seeking to improve their education, skills, or employment prospects. We only have one applicant. We have the opportunity to give more, so spread the word. Click the Live Your Dream link to spread the word and learn more.
See you Wednesday!
President Sara

Serve on a Sierra Nevada Region Committee
You’ve got the passion! Who’s ready to take doing life-changing, meaningful work in an atmosphere of friendship and fun to the next level? As you have heard, or will hear at the Fall District Meetings, we need YOU to help keep us the healthy region we continue to be. And, become a part of our moving forward into the next century history. Our region needs committee members to help us reach our big goal…and have a whole lot of fun doing it! Below is a link to the Committee Sign Up Form. If you have any problems clicking through on the link, simply copy it, and paste it into your browser. Filling out the form is not a firm commitment; there is a place to simply ask me more questions so I can contact you to discuss. And it provides me with a great spreadsheet too! I look forward to seeing how we can perhaps put fresh new spins on our time-honored traditions, and for that WE NEED YOU!
For more INFORMATION about the various committees, what they do and when they do it, I have also included a link to the Sierra Nevada Region Website, taking you directly to the forms page. Committee information is spelled out in our governing documents, Bylaws and Fiscal Standing Rules (May 2021) and our Procedures (October 2020). Don’t delay, sign up today!
Lisa Fitzgerald, SNR Governor Elect

SOLT (Soroptimist Orientation and Leadership Training)
by: Linda Kerch
We all should know that Soroptimist started in the USA in Oakland in 1921. What we may not know is that the original Soroptimist club was influenced greatly by the Rotary club whose mens club promoted the support of professional women as well as the ideals of service and intemationalism.
It seems that the Soroptimist movement started because the early Soroptimists were unwilling to accept the subordinate position implied by the structure of the Rotary.
Mission Statement
Through International partnerships and a global network of members, Soroptimists inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls by: Advocating for equrty and equality;
creating safe and healthy environments; increasing access to education; Developing leadership and practical skills for a sustainable future.
Principles of Soroptimism are
- The advancement of the stafus of women
- High ethical standards
- Human rights for all
- Equality, development and peace and
- The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace.
