NEVADA MOONSHOT FLIGHT CREW

The Nevada Moonshot Flight Crew is a group of Nevada youth ranging between the ages of 13 to 17 who are motivated to close the gender gap in STEM in our state. The members have received monthly trainings on public speaking, advocacy, leadership, and more.

Meet Flight Crew member, Zoe, and her mentor Emily!


Zoe has a passion for wildlife biology and had the opportunity to explore it further through the Great Basin Outdoor School's overnight camps, with the guidance of their mentor, Emily.

The NV Moonshot Flight Crew application for cohort 2 is now open! Nevada girls & gender expansive youth ages 12-16 are encouraged to apply! Youth will participate in public speaking opportunities, STEM experiences, a mentorship experience, and a $500 scholarship to support STEM educational experiences will be provided during the program to those selected!

Reach for the Stars


On October 23rd, NAN and the NV Moonshot Flight Crew hosted Reach for the Stars at the Illuminarium in Las Vegas to showcase the 1st cohort of the Nevada Flight Crew. Dr. Alex Lockwood spoke about her STEM journey and work on the James Webb telescope images. This was followed by a panel discussion with Flight Crew members, Andrea, Phoenix, and Zoe. Caitlin and Siana later joined a STEM panel with Dr. Linda Johnson McClinton, Dr. Michelle B. Lee, and Dr. George Rhee. We are so proud of the NV Moonshot Flight Crew!

ACRES Coaching: Nurturing STEM Identity & Making Career Connections

How do you help youth recognize their role in STEM? How do you help youth learn about STEM careers? Program providers experience several easy-to-implement strategies, including a photo-elicitation activity that can help youth form STEM identities, and then learn how to conduct related activities with youth.

NASA’s Surprisingly STEM Monthly Career Exploration - Video Series

Check out the Surprisingly STEM video series that highlights exciting and unexpected careers at NASA. Programs can share this series with their program members to learn more about unique STEM careers.


We’re big fans of Sam Zauber and Frank Quinto – two wind tunnel test engineers at NASA's Langley Research Center! You’ll be blown away as you learn how NASA uses its 14-foot by 22-foot subsonic wind tunnel. See some of the fascinating things Frank and Sam have tested there, and learn what propelled them into their exciting STEM careers.
