GIVE LA Challenge

We're ringing in the holiday season by participating in the inaugural GIVE Los Angeles Challenge and we invite you to join us! This digital fundraising campaign is hosted by Los Angeles Magazine and gives Angelenos the opportunity to support non-profits in the community. The organization that raises the most donations will receive an additional $15,000 donation. Second and third will also win large cash prizes on top of the funds already raised throughout the campaign.

Here's where we need your help...
  • We're looking for supporters to donate now through January 3rd. Click HERE to donate today.
  • You can also go a step further and join our fundraising team. This will give you a platform to engage your network and help us raise additional funds and awareness! All you have to do is GO HERE and click 'Fundraise for this Charity' to create a page to share with your friends and family.
Your support will help future  Habitat LA homeowners experience the joy
of having their very own home for the  holidays!

Veterans Build
Hundreds of volunteers and veterans generously spent Veterans Day weekend helping us build six new affordable homes in the City of Bellflower. One of these houses is being built in partnership with Jose Jimenez, a U.S. Army veteran, who is looking forward to purchasing his family's first home.

This year's Veterans Build took place November 11-12 and is an annual event that unites veterans and volunteers in service to the local community. The build also highlights Habitat for Humanity of Greater LA's veteran outreach initiative, Habitat for Heroes, which is aimed at building and repairing homes for U.S. veterans and their families, as well as engaging them in Habitat LA's work. Since 2011, thousands of veterans have volunteered and nearly 100 have been served through Habitat LA's home preservation and home repair programs.

We are grateful to The Albertsons Companies Foundation and The Vons Foundation for being our title sponsor and to all of our veteran volunteers who continue to selflessly serve our country.

Team Depot Gives Back
Team Depot volunteers from throughout the U.S. recently spent a morning helping to frame our six home development in Bellflower as part of The Home Depot's CBI Event on October 27th. This build highlighted The Home Depot Foundation's commitment to improving the homes and lives of U.S. veterans and their families. In addition to building and raising walls alongside Jose Jimenez, a U.S. Army veteran and one of the developments future homeowners, the volunteers assembled 1,500 hygiene kits that will be distributed by the Salvation Army to homeless vets in the coming months.

The ReStore GMC/DIY Challenge

The Habitat LA ReStore in Torrance hosted GMC's DIY Challenge for the second year in a row. Three DIY experts - Vanessa de Vargas, Justin DiPego, and Clint Browning - put their creativity to the test. These experts repurposed furniture and other items they found at the ReStore into new pieces for a Habitat LA home recently purchased by a partner homebuyer. Curious who emerged victorious in the challenge? Check out the episode above.

Sukkot Build

On October 30th Jewish communities from across Los Angeles partnered with Habitat LA for the inaugural Sukkot Build at our Montebello site. In the spirit of the Jewish Holiday Sukkot, which celebrates the importance of shelter, Jewish schools and congregations came together for an amazing volunteer day. Frances Ramos and Ezequiel Trejo, Habitat LA partner homebuyers, also joined us to thank the volunteers and share their stories! This was an inspiring day and we are excited about our growing partnership with our Jewish faith communities!

Beach Cities Friends Trivia Night

Last month, Habitat LA celebrated our 6th Annual Trivia Night hosted by Beach Cities Friends! Approximately 175 trivia enthusiasts came together for a friendly competition at Vistamar School in El Segundo. With nearly $30,000 raised in sponsorships and fund-a-need donations, Trivia Night was another huge success in support of Habitat LA. Special thanks to our sponsors, Jordan Development, KAA and KKC, as well as our Beach Cities Friends - Candy Currie, Eve Currin, Cindy Hoag (Chair) , Mary Hocking, Amy Howorth, Laura Lang, and Leslie Whinfrey!

Trejo Family Home Dedication

We were thrilled to celebrate the completion of the 6th Habitat LA home built in partnership with Delta Air Lines! This home is part of a larger multi-year $900,000 pledge by Delta to help build affordable housing throughout Los Angeles and specifically in the City of LA.  Over 450 Delta employees volunteered to help build this house in just six weeks illustrating the company's commitment to its community!

Los Angeles Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Delta Air Lines Vice President-Sales - West Region Ranjan Goswami, Delta Program Manager Barry Matthews and Executive Director of Restore Neighborhoods Los Angeles John Perfitt,  joined us to celebrate the completion of the Trejo's home during a special home dedication ceremony held on October 26th. The festivities honored Delta Air Lines and all of the volunteers who worked alongside our partner homeowners, Maria and Ezequiel Trejo, to build their home.

"As an advocate for affordable housing through our partnership with Habitat for Humanity and an active member of the community in LA, building our sixth Habitat home in LA was just as special as the first. We are so happy for the Trejo family, and with our commitment to contribute 1 percent of our net income to key charitable organizations, we look forward to working on housing solutions with Habitat LA and local families for years to come," said Ranjan Goswami. The Trejo family also expressed their immense gratitude during the dedication and look forward to celebrating the holidays in their newly completed home.
