Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

On the morning of Friday, October 29, the Sherando United Methodist Church building was destroyed in a fire. Sherando UMC is located not far from Waynesboro and Stuarts Draft on the Staunton District.

This morning, the saints of Sherando UMC packed the local Ruritan hall for worship, and two new members united with the congregation. Through tears and even moments of holy laughter, fond memories were shared and the congregation demonstrated great resilience as we looked to God's future with hope.

As soon as the news of the fire broke, a number of you reached out to both the Roanoke and Staunton District offices looking for ways to help. Right now, the most useful way to help Sherando is by monetary contributions. If you or your congregation feels moved to support the people of Sherando UMC in this way, please mail a check made out to "Staunton District" to

Thank you so much for your prayers and concern. They have been of immeasurable benefit to the church. It is our connection at its best.

Grace and peace,
