Joseph and Jacob in Egyptian Archaeology
On Nov 7th the GHCA will present a lecture recorded by PhD Archaeologist, Doug Petrovich, who will show that there is quite substantial archaeological evidence that Joseph and Jacob actually played
the roles in Egyptian history that are portrayed in the Bible.
That archaeological evidence indicates that there was in fact a man from a country east of Egypt who was elevated over the land of Egypt second only to Pharaoh! This man was regarded as wiser than any in Egypt. There was a time of plenty where grain was aggressively stored up and a time of famine that was sustained by the stored grain. During the time of famine this man's family was brought to Egypt and the Pharaoh gave them the best of the land in Egypt where
they grew strong and numerous. Is this not clearly Joseph and Jacob in Egyptian history?
Dr. Petrovich will explain an array of this evidence in substantial detail. This evidence puts Jacob's move was to Avaris in Egypt in 1876 BC and the 12th Dynasty of the Middle Kingdom of Egypt in the reign of Sesostris III. Here is where many scholars protest.
Genesis 47:11
tells us, "Now Joseph settled his father and his brothers, and he gave them property in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land,
in the land of Ramesses
, just as that which pharaoh had commanded." Other texts that mention Ramesses as a place include E
xodus 1: 11, Exodus 12:37, Numbers 33:3, and Numbers 33:5.
This Ramesses is often taken to be Ramesses II who ruled in the 19th Dynasty between 1290 and 1223 BC. Ramesses II did do a lot of building through his reign and likely used a lot of slaves but there is not much else that fits the Biblical narrative. Certainly there is no Exodus in the time of Ramesses II, or anywhere else in the view of many. From this poor fit many conventional scholars conclude that Biblical history much before King David is largely mythology. However, there is a reason why Genesis says Ramesses . The place name in Jacob's day was Avaris but centuries later Ramesses II built a huge complex there so the place name became Ramesses. Even Wikipedia gets this although they don't seem to see the
Biblical significance. See

Qantir is believed to mark what was probably the ancient site of the
19th dynasty
Pharaoh
Ramesses II
's capital,
Pi-Ramesse
or Per-Ramesses ("House or Domain of Ramesses"). This city is situated around 9 kilometers (5.6 mi) north of Faqous in the
Sharqiyah
province of the eastern
Nile Delta
, about 60 miles north-east of
Cairo
.

The ancient site of
Avaris
is located around 2 kilometers (1.2 mi) south of Qantir. This was the older city in this area. Later on, Avaris was absorbed by Pi-Ramesses.
Petrovich makes a strong case that the Old
Testament references were changed to reflect the place name recognizable to later readers. Modern Bible publishers have found reason to make textual updates many times to enable understanding of the current readers.
Dr. Petrovich gives a large array of evidence that fits Joseph and Jacob with the people and events of the 12th Dynasty and after. They are given names that are a phrase relating their significance to the Egyptians, it is not a simple translation of the names Joseph and Jacob. One looking for such a simple translation will
not find it.
The following month's lecture will add even more evidence in detail and extend it to the lives of Manasseh and Ephraim in Egypt.

Examples of Important YEC Scientific Evidences
Some major examples of physical evidence we point to include:
- Remains of original soft tissue still found in dinosaur bones. Along with that tissue is C-14 that would decay completely away in less than a hundred thousand years, a tiny fraction of the dinosaur fossil's supposed age.
- For many years geologists have found C-14 in fossil carbon throughout the fossil record. So, the entire fossil record is less than 100,000 years old.
- The origin of the information and molecular machinery in the first living self-reproducing cell remains a complete enigma for biologist and biochemists.
- In the origin of the universe, big bang theory is being recognized as a dead end by increasing numbers of secular scientists. The hypothesized inflation has nothing to start it, drive it forward, or stop it. Without inflation fatal flaws appear with the absence of predicted antimatter, magnetic monopoles, or any means for the whole universe to come to the same precise background temperature. Then the formation of the first stars is as enigmatic as the origin of the first biological cell. Dark matter and dark energy are as enigmatic as the galactic motions they are needed to explain.
At the root of all standard science are many assumptions that may be quite incorrect. At the top is that there is no God. Another is that present process can be used to explain everything in the past. When we look at a canyon we are taught to assume the river at the bottom cut the canyon. But perhaps tectonic events made the canyon and there is a river at the bottom because water always flows downhill. At the root of big bang theory is a pure assumption that has been named the "Cosmological Principle". Perhaps inaccuracies there are responsible for the big bang's multitude of problems.
