Midtown Reliability Project Update
TEP above ground proposal - How it will look...
| |
TEP is in the process of taking two actions:
Currently, they are applying to City Planning and Zoning for an exception to the gateway and scenic routes ordinance in order to permit them to construct overhead lines across three intersections, including Broadway and Euclid. The ordinance requires undergrounding the lines.
Soon thereafter, TEP plans to apply for a second zoning exception to construct the new Vine substation. The Zoning Examiner will hold a public hearing on TEP's request before making his decision.
The proposed Vine substation, on the edge of Jefferson Park, is within the territory of the University Area Plan (UAP) and would violate the guideline which states that utilities should be placed underground.
The project’s proposed route also runs through numerous areas and residential neighborhoods that are recognized as National Historic Register Districts. The West University neighborhood is also designated as a Historic Preservation Zone (HPZ) whose zoning calls for undergrounding as well as consideration of height and compatibility with the historic surroundings. Jefferson Park and a few other neighborhoods in the project area are also designated as Neighborhood Preservation Zones (NPZ’s) which have both height and compatibility standards.
TEP should not be constructing the project above ground. Structures that are 75-85 feet high or taller will dominate the entire landscape all across the center of town (see simulated photos below). TEP should be denied both of the exceptions based on City ordinances.

It was a sizeable job, but she reached out to many folks on the list. She removed outdated referrals and corrected errors. If you have a service or business to refer, please contact Colleen cnichols17@cox.net and she will add their information to the list. Please visit the site so you know what to report to her http://www.jeffersonpark.info/recommended-services.html

Did you know? Jefferson Park gets a portion of the parking permit revenue when residents purchase a parking permit! If you have restricted parking on your street, please consider getting parking permits for you and guests. If you believe that your street does not need restricted parking, email cindy.doklan@gmail.com. If you’re being annoyed by un-neighborly parking habits, such as parking too close to stop signs, the wrong way, too close to your driveway, call Park Tucson at 520-791-5071 or email: parktucson@tucsonaz.gov .
P.S. You do not want to get a ticket in the restricted permit area or generally anywhere in Jefferson Park. They are expensive! Park Tucson enforcement comes around on a regular basis - about 200 parking violation citations were meted out last year just in our neighborhood alone! Remember, no parking in restricted areas, near stop signs, parking the wrong way on the street, parking within 5' of the curb cut of a driveway, or parking in the right-of-way.
