Tnemec Announces 2021 "Tank of the Year"
|
|
Did you know that hundreds of the fabulously painted municipal water tanks that celebrate hometown pride across America use the high-performance coatings from Tnemec headquartered in North Kansas City? It’s true! Tnemec likes to say it’s where hometown pride and high-performance meet.
To recognize these municipalities for their aesthetic, creative and innovative uses of Tnemec’s high-performance coatings on water storage projects in various shapes and sizes, Tnemec sponsors an annual Tank of the Year competition with winners featured in Tnemec’s Water Tank Calendar for the upcoming year.
When the contest began in 2006, there were barely enough entrants to fill a calendar. Rosemont, Illinois, a well-known tank that can be seen when flying into O’Hare airport, received the inaugural Tank of the Year honor. Over the years the competition has become much stiffer and there are now over 300 hundred entrants each year with the tank design continuing to get more creative and elaborate. Voting is done online for a two-week period in October for the People’s Choice award which is open to everyone and anyone! The winner of the People’s Choice award is then entered into consideration along with the 11 runners-up selected by Tnemec for the calendar. The Tank of the Year is selected by a panel of water tank enthusiasts based on criteria such as artistic value, significance of the tank to the community, and challenges encountered during the project and is featured as the month of January in the calendar. Wamego, KS recently won both the People’s Choice Award and the Tank of the Year award.
Click here to see the video announcing the 2021 winners and runners-up. You don’t want to miss the People’s Choice tank! And, while you’re checking out the Tank of the Year and all the other finalists be sure to request your copy of the Tnemec 2022 Water Tank Calendar and sign-up for a notification for the 2022 contest so you won’t miss out on voting next year.

Spooky Snake Saturday a "Howling" Success
|
|
Spooky Snake Saturday, which was presented by Northland Festivals on Saturday, October 23rd, was indeed a day of "howling" good fun in North Kansas City for families with kids of all ages. The street festival included a carnival with a Ferris Wheel and many other fun and exciting rides, as well as pumpkin decorating, a petting zoo, pony rides and much, much more. The Ghouls and Goblins contest held at Macken Park that morning featured 3 costume categories, prizes and lots of spooky fun. Many of the Ghouls and Goblins, both big and small, could be seen later in the day enjoying the street festival and the stationary parade adding to the spooky atmosphere. Participants in the stationary parade went all out decorating their entries to capture the spirit of Halloween creating a hauntingly good time for everyone. The Tim C. Crummett Family Charitable Fund Projects Committee, in partnership with EXLTUBE recently accepted artist Andrei Krautsou’s concept for a public art mural to be featured on the east wall of EXLTUBE, Bay 4, along Burlington. The Crummett Committee had previously identified this area as a prime location for such a project due to its size and location along one of North Kansas City’s high-traffic areas.

Life Unlimited New Headquarters Renovations Well Underway
|
Life Unlimited, Inc is in the process of a complete renovation to their North Kansas City office which will serve as their new headquarters. The historic bank building on Armour Road and Erie Street in downtown North Kansas City was acquired in 1996 by one of their founding agencies, Concerned Care.
Life Unlimited is the largest disability service provider in the metro area. In 2019, due to increasing demands for programming, services, client housing and a quickly growing staff size, Life Unlimited knew they needed a new headquarters. Their renovated North Kansas City location will include offices for administrative staff, a multi-use training and development center, and a beautiful rooftop deck with views of downtown and the Kansas City skyline.
Although Life Unlimited will now utilize all three floors, previous tenants of their second-floor office space include numerous North Kansas City prominent businesses such as Tradebot and the North Kansas City Business Council.
Life Unlimited is partnering with BCCM Construction Group and Exact Architects to elevate the existing historic building into an iconic landmark for all of downtown North Kansas City. The building is expected to reopen in early 2022.
