Dear Friends for Life,

Every day, every moment, we should be thankful: “In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” (New American Bible, 1 Thessalonians 5:18) The month of November, though, brings occasion to more formally (and perhaps more deeply) consider the myriad of blessings bestowed upon us.

It goes without saying that I am profoundly grateful for my Catholic Faith, for my dear family, and for the material blessings that make my life comfortable. These are among the visible things I see and appreciate every day. But, over the last couple of years, there are numerous actions protective of human life that have been undertaken by the current presidential administration which may have gone unnoticed in day-to-day life—yet their significant impact on building a civilization of life and love should not be
taken for granted.  Read more

The Gives and Takes Of Life
By: Deacon Marty McIndoe
We have been very fortunate to have had a pro-life President for the last four years. Whether or not you like President Trump as a person, you have to recognize that he has done a great deal for the Pro-Life cause.

As I write this, the major news stations are projecting him as losing the election. At the same time there are a number of lawsuits alleging voter fraud and it is difficult to say what may happen. None the less, no matter who is President we must always remember that Jesus is Lord and we must learn to trust in Him. Christianity has lasted for 2,000 years and has outlasted every government it has ever been under. Read more
God of all blessings,
source of all life,
giver of all grace:
We thank you for the gift of life:
for the breath
that sustains life,
for the food of this earth
that nurtures life,
for the love of family and friends
without which there would be no life.

We thank you for the mystery of creation:
for the beauty
that the eye can see,
for the joy
that the ear may hear,
for the unknown
that we cannot behold filling the universe with wonder,
for the expanse of space
that draws us beyond the definitions of our selves.

We thank you for setting us in communities:
for families
who nurture our becoming,
for friends
who love us by choice,
for companions at work,
who share our burdens and daily tasks,
for strangers
who welcome us into their midst,
for people from other lands
who call us to grow in understanding,
for children
who lighten our moments with delight,
for the unborn,
who offer us hope for the future.

We thank you for this day:
for life and one more day to love,
and one more person to love
and by whom be loved,
for your grace
and one more experience of your presence,
for your promise:
to be with us,
to be our God,
and to give salvation.

For these, and all blessings,
we give you thanks, eternal, loving God,
through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

National Night Of Prayer For Life
December 8, 2020
Begins at 9:00 p.m. | Hour of Unity from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.
It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (then celebrated on December 9th) that Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego. The National Night of Prayer for Life bridges these two feasts to honor Our Blessed Mother and to pray for the sanctity of all human life.

We ask each parish to join in praying on this holy occasion.
The National Night of Prayer for Life is a pro-life prayer service consisting of exposition and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the Rosary, prayer to St. Michael, silent prayer and hymns.

“Holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.” Tit. 1:9
On November 14, 2020 the Office of Human Life, Family and Bioethics hosted a training for Sidewalk Advocates at Christ the King, RCC in Commack. There were 20 people in attendance and all were certified by the end of the day. Michael and Colette Sweeney, SAFL leaders facilitated the training.

To train, equip, and support local communities across the United States and the world in “sidewalk advocacy”: to be the hands and feet of Christ, offering loving, life-affirming alternatives to all present at the abortion center, thereby eliminating demand and ending abortion. Read more
A Bit of Bioethics
Should I Get Vaccinated?
By: Father Tad Pacholczyk, Director of Education, The National Catholic Bioethics Center
Recently, many people have been reaching out with questions about vaccines. So, I thought it would be helpful to mention some of the most common ones and try to provide some answers.

Are there sound medical reasons to oppose vaccination? There can be, but vaccines typically provide a path towards individual protection and herd immunity that involves less burden and risk than becoming infected with a disease. Today's childhood vaccination schedule protects against more than a dozen different diseases. Some individuals, though, may need to decline vaccines if they have a compromised immune system or an allergy to one of the ingredients. When a vaccine is determined to be safe and effective, it will often make sense for healthy individuals to choose, on their own initiative, to get immunized. Read more

40 Days For Life Fall Campaigns
Hempstead 40DFL

Hello Everyone,

We had one of our most successful 40 Days for Life campaigns thanks to all the prayer warriors that took the time to pray for the unborn babies while standing in front of the Hempstead Planned Parenthood.
Just last week, eight women were sent by prayer warriors to the pregnancy care center for pregnancy tests, STD testing(referrals) and baby items. Another woman was sent to the Life Center by a sidewalk counselor because she regretted her medical abortion. Unfortunately, the baby could not be saved, but the woman was referred to post abortion healing services.
During the course of the campaign, approximately eighteen women were referred to the Life Center. This included ONE BABY SAVED FROM ABORTION. Only God knows how many other abortion minded women changed their minds when they observed the powerful witness of people praying in front of Planned Parenthood.
We look forward to sponsoring another 40 Days for Life campaign in the Spring.
In the end, with the Holy Spirit leading the way, we know we will be victorious in defending the sanctity of human life.

God bless you.

Pro Biker for Life
Why I ride with the Pro Bikers for Life
By: Louis M Fielack PBFL
“What are we crazy?”

The Pro Bikers for Life have been riding for the unborn for over twelve years. Working with the Sisters of Life and crisis pregnancy centers including the Women First Pregnancy Options. The PBFL have been helping men and women see beyond the temporary obstacles, allowing them to receive their beautiful child and inheritance. We do this through prayer, sidewalk counseling, social media and best of all proudly wearing our colors when we ride our motorcycles or just on the street witnessing to all.
Well, how did I get from doing the same old things in the world to thinking I was being called to become a PBFL? That all started with GOD and GOD is COOL! YES COOL! A beautiful change happened in my life when I started going back to church. I was growing and I did not have to carry and handle all of life’s issues by myself. I was having a relationship with my Creator and that opened the doors to so many other relationships.  Read more

November is National Adoption Month!
To a woman facing an unexpected pregnancy in difficult circumstances, adoption is sometimes felt to be worse than aborting her child. In reality, placing a child for adoption is a loving, generous, and sacrificial option that demonstrates a woman’s profound, long-term motherly care.
In considering and choosing whether to place her child for adoption, a mother seeks what is best for her child, making a selfless act of love. Still, a woman considering adoption may experience a number of conflicting emotions. It is essential that she be supported throughout and after the process, whether she decides to place her child with another loving family or to raise her child herself.

By grace, we are made children of God through adoption and can call him, “Abba, Father!” (Rom. 8:15).

Ask a Fertility Educator
By: Jamey Hutchinson BSN CFCP, Women's Health Nurse, FertilityCare Practitioner
Question: I am 32 years old and just went through my second miscarriage at 6 weeks. What could be causing this? How soon can I get pregnant again?

Response: Pregnancy losses, no matter how far along you were, are a tremendous loss for the woman. It is often a hidden grief because the couple may not have told many people or anyone that they are pregnant yet. Emotions of grief, sadness, anger, confusion, doubt and even guilt can be powerful as the couple grapples with a pregnancy loss.
Early pregnancy loss (EPL) can be defined as a loss of pregnancy within the first trimester of pregnancy or 13 weeks from the last menses (American Academy of Obstetrics and Gynecology). Most early pregnancy losses are due to chromosomal defects of the embryo, especially among older reproductive age women.  Read more

Prayer for Healing
Source of all mercy and love,
out of love for us you sent your Son,
and willed that blood and water
flow from his side to cleanse us of sin
and restore lost innocence.

Hear the cry of each woman who mourns
the loss of her child to abortion.
Forgive her sin, restore her to your grace,
and still the terror of her heart
with a peace beyond all understanding.
Through the intercession
of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of all tenderness and our Mother,
strengthen her faith in you.
Give her the consolation to believe
that her child is now living in the Lord.

We ask this through Christ our Lord,
who conquered sin and death,
and who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
