Our Community Partners: Building Stronger Neighborhoods

New England Ignatian Volunteers make a difference by assisting in neighborhood, church, and community organizations seeking to confront poverty and marginalization in our society. Our 51 volunteers currently serve with 28 New England nonprofit agencies in eleven Massachusetts and Rhode Island cities and towns. Each of these agencies is committed to bettering the lives of those whom they serve. Each is a light shining in times of darkness.
As the holidays approach, consider making a gift to one of these IVC partner organizations, or better yet, join one of them as a volunteer in the coming year! Our partner agencies are listed below. IVC Service Corps members currently working with these organizations are noted after the organizations in the descriptions below.

Casserly House (Roslindale): founded by the Boston Sisters of St. Joseph as a ministry of presence in a diverse neighborhood populated by a large number of new immigrants: Casserly House (Mary Beth O'Sullivan, Sheila Rourke).

Catholic Charities Worcester County (Worcester): committed to meeting the needs of the poor, the homeless, the immigrant, the infirm: Catholic Charities (Rich Boucher).

Catholic Social Services of Rhode Island (Providence): helping with the resettlement of refugees as they become acclimated to our country: Catholic Social Services (Mike Lee, Mary Sue Mulligan).

Community Prep (Providence): serves culturally and economically diverse students, grades three through eight, seeking to help them succeed in college-prep programs and to become community leaders: Community Prep (Gail Donovan).

Cotting School (Lexington): seeking to enable children with special needs to achieve their highest learning potential and level of independence: Cotting School (Ron Nix).

Cristo Rey Boston High School (Dorchester): a co-educational Catholic school, offering students of multicultural backgrounds and limited economic means a rigorous college prep program in a nurturing environment: Cristo Rey Boston (Peter Lyons, Larry Feeney, Joan Martin, Jerry Sheehan, Jerome Meier, Theresa Chaklos, Mary Russo, Margaret Coughlin).

The Epiphany School (Dorchester): an independent school for children of economically disadvantaged families in Boston, with scholarships for all: Epiphany (Linda MacKay, Mary Riordan).

Father Bill's & MainSpring (Brockton/Quincy): the largest homeless-service provider in southern Massachusetts: Father Bill's (Jim Ryan).

FriendshipWorks (Boston/Newton): providing friendship, advocacy, educational assistance, and emotional supports to isolated older adults in the Greater Boston area: FriendshipWorks (Louise Cavanaugh).

Genesis Center (Providence): providing refugees, immigrants, and low-income adult learners with English language skills, literacy, job skills, early education for their children, and other supports toward independence: Genesis Center (Karen and Ty Brennan).

Haley House (Boston): celebrating more than 50 years of accompanying those made vulnerable by the effects of inequality toward wholeness and economic independence: Haley House (Jim Nagle).

Highlander Charter School (Providence): uses innovative education as a catalyst for social change, ensuring that all children have the opportunity and support necessary to meet their full potential: Highlander (Karen Lynch, Joe McCarthy).

Ignatian Spirituality Project (Boston/Providence): provides spiritual retreats to women and men in recovery and currently experiencing or having experienced homelessness: Ignatian Sprituality Project (John Butler, Karen Mullin, Kevin Ryan).
- The International Institute of New England (Boston): creates opportunities for refugees and immigrants to succeed through resettlement, education, career advancement, and pathways to citizenship: IINE (Jane Corr).

Irish Pastoral Centre (Boston): assisting Irish and other immigrants in facilitating their positive transition to life in America: Irish Pastoral Centre (Anne Finn).

Julie's Family Learning Program (South Boston): committed to the development of strong, stable, healthy family functioning: Julie's Family Learning (Katherine McGrath).

Mary House at St. Patrick's Parish (Providence): a multicultural parish with "vibrant liturgies, great preaching, inspiring music, and great hospitality": Mary House (Fran Murray).

Mathewson Street Church (Providence): a church in the heart of the city of Providence "sustained by the reconciling love of God and providing hope for all people:" Mathewson (Tom Sills).

Matthew 25 (Worcester): provides quality, affordable, rental housing to families in need: Matthew 25 (Liz Morrisroe).

McAuley Village (Providence): provides family-building and transitional housing for mothers and their children who were previously homeless: McAuley (Kathleen Bennett).

My Brother's Keeper (Easton/Dartmouth): committed to "bring the love and hope of Jesus Christ to those we serve" through food and furniture assistance and other programs: My Brother's Keeper (Carol Armstrong, Tom Lucci, Larry Loh, Neil Dold, Helen and Dennis Kay, Mary Dacey White).

Nurtury Early Education (Jamaica Plain/Roxbury): New England's first education and care agency, working to help Greater Boston's youngest children in need achieve their full potential: Nurtury (Cathi Smith).

Project Hope (Roxbury): a multi-service agency providing low-income women with children access to jobs, education, housing, and emergency services: Project Hope (Ann Bersani, Beth-Anne Flynn).

Rian Immigrant Center (Boston): empowering immigrants, refugees, and international exchange visitors on the path to opportunity, safety, and a better future: Rian (Jane Leonard).

Saint John's Catholic Church (Worcester): a spiritual mission to combine the corporal and spiritual works of mercy and daily acts of charity for all: St. John's Worcester (Phil Ciaramicoli).

Sister Mary Hart Children's Program (Roxbury): located at St. Katharine Drexel church, the program's mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for the children of Roxbury and surrounding neighborhoods: Sister Mary Hart (John Walsh)

Springwell (Waltham): providing comprehensive services to seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those who provide care, part of the social safety net for thousands of older adults: Springwell (Rosemary Balady, Dave Brooks, Peter Lyons, Diane Neylon).
Each of the agencies above are very worthy of and needful of your support. Please take a few moments and go to the websites of those that most align with your interests. Their work is amazing. Take a look at the websites that most appeal to you. Decide whether you might want to support their work in some way. Tell them IVC sent you!

Some may also want to help IVC more directly as we help our partner agencies. IVC Service Corps Members are now active in twenty regions. IVC New England is one of the largest. We continue to grow.
