This week, the Discovery Band will be sharing the word in song of Forever Reign and closing with Reckless Love. These are both familiar to you, the congregation, and we appreciate hearing you sing out! | | |

PRESCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Last week, our friends got to celebrate Community Helpers with parades and parties. The children dressed up as their favorite community helper, or something they wanted to be when they grow up. Each class had a fall party in their room, and it was so fun seeing all the families come together to celebrate!

Coats for Kids
The Missions Team is sponsoring a Coats for Kids drive for the children at Bridges Treatment Center to run from October 8 through
November 2. There will be a collection box for new or gently used coats and jackets for youth of all sizes located outside the church office (please do not use the coat rack). Bridges Treatment Center serves boys and girls from ages 6 to 17; often these children come to reside at the center without a coat of any kind, and this need is especially critical as the weather gets colder. Thank you for supporting these youth who are at a crossroads in life, please keep them in your prayers.

RISE AGAINST HUNGER
Thank you to everyone who helped with the Rise Against Hunger meal packaging event on Sunday! We had fun and worked hard packing 10,000 meals for people in need. We were told that the meals we packed will most likely be sent to the Philippines, where they have experienced four significant earthquakes in the past three weeks. We are short of our goal of
$4,100 to cover the cost of the meals we packed. Please consider contributing by check marked "Rise Against Hunger" or by using the link included. Thanks again!

A big thank you to everyone who came out and supported our 15th Annual Circle 7 Craft Fair.
It is because of you and other patrons that it was another successful event. A special thank you to the men who helped us set up and clean up. Money from space registrations, food sales, and the bake sale will be used for local missions.
Thank you again!

Welcome Center on Sunday Mornings!
We are seeking volunteers to help with our Sunday morning hospitality. On Sunday mornings, snacks, coffee, and water are available in the Welcome Center before each service. Pre-packaged snacks are readily available and should be supplemented with fresh items you can easily pick up at your local grocery store. Folks who sign up need to have the Welcome Center ready at 8:45 and clean up after the worship service.More volunteers are needed to buy and put out the snacks on Sunday mornings, make the coffee, and clean up after the worship service (typically takes 15 minutes). More specific directions will be posted in the hospitality kitchen off the narthex. If you can help with hospitality this way, please click the link HERE. Thank you!

Members of the Genesis Class again volunteered at Daily Bread. On October 24, these busy folks helped serve some 917 meals.
We also have a listing of requested supplies that you might want to help provide or fund. The needs continue to grow.

Greetings Everyone!
We had an enjoyable hike for our 2nd HUMC Connection Hike on October 26th. Our group of 8 hiked about 4 miles on the Blackwater Creek Trail. The weather was excellent, and it was great to be outdoors together.
Our next hike will be on Sunday, November 9th, and we are planning to hike on the Appalachian Trail near the Blue Ridge Parkway. It will be a short, flat hike that is easier than the two hikes we have done so far. We will hike to the iconic rock formation called the Guillotine, which has a massive boulder on each side of the trail, with a very large boulder that looks like it could fall wedged overhead. There is actually no danger of the boulder falling, but it makes for great pictures, see Judy’s below. I hope all of you will be able to make it and get a photographic momento.
It will be a longer drive to get up there (it’s the highest point of the Parkway in Virginia), so factor that into your schedules. After the hike, we can take a short drive to the Thunder Ridge Overlook on the Parkway to watch the sunset. This overlook has one of the most breathtaking views on the entire Parkway, and many people have gotten engaged or married there.

You Can Give to Heritage UMC (a Qualified Charity) to satisfy your Required Minimum Distribution!
For 2025, the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) limit is $108,000 per person, and custodians are required to report QCDs separately using Code Y on Form 1099-R. Individuals aged 70½ or older can use a QCD to fulfill their IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while excluding the distribution from income.
2025 QCD limits and rules
- Annual limit: The maximum QCD an individual can make is $108,000.
- Married couples: Both spouses, if they qualify, can each make a QCD of up to $108,000.
- Age requirement: You must be age 70½ or older at the time of the distribution.
- Fulfillment of RMD: A QCD can be used to satisfy your IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year.
- Standard deduction: You can use a QCD even if you do not itemize deductions. The amount distributed is excluded from income, which is often more beneficial than an itemized deduction.
- Reporting requirements: For 2025 tax filings, custodians must report QCDs separately using Code Y in Box 7 of Form 1099-R to help with compliance.
Key takeaways
- Prioritize QCDs: It is generally more tax-efficient to fulfill your RMD with a QCD if possible, as the amount is not taxed.
- Stay organized: Even with the new reporting codes, it is still the taxpayer's responsibility to ensure all QCD requirements are met. Keep all supporting documents, such as acknowledgments from the charity and custodian records.
- Timing is crucial: A QCD for 2025 must be completed by December 31, 2025
