St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear SRS parents and Guardians,

I hope you and your family have been enjoying the glorious weather we have had over the past few days. Last week and this week I had the pleasure of outside lunch duty with the students in order to give all our teachers an uninterrupted lunch period. Not only have I been enjoying soaking up the sun rays but watching how happy our students are to be in school, with their friends, and just having a sense of normalcy in their lives.

Thank you for working with us to ensure the health and safety of our students and faculty members by keeping your child home when he/she is not feeling well. Many parents have inquired about having their child join in with our remote learners when they are out for a day or two for some illness (sore throat, cough, cold, allergies etc.). If your child is out sick please let him/her “enjoy” a sick day and do not worry about making up work. Let’s not take away from your children the memories of being “sick” and having mom, dad or a grandparent pamper them with homemade soup, popsicles, watching movies, playing board games and just doing nothing.

A number of parents have inquired if St. Rita School will be following the public school systems in our area regarding hybrid or full-time remote learning and at this time the answer is NO! SRS will continue to follow the five-day in-person instruction as long as the data within our school community supports this decision. If we see any uptick in COVID cases within our school community we will need to reassess, after consultation with the local health district, but this will happen on a case by case basis. Should the State of Connecticut shut down all schools in the state, like they did in the spring, we will follow their decision.

Remote learning parents have until this Friday to inform us of their child’s status for the second trimester which begins December 3. Please take the 10 second survey at this link if you have not yet completed it. Only one survey per remote family is necessary. If your child is currently an in-person learner and you want them to transition to remote learning beginning December 3, please notify me by next Friday, November 20. In order for us to properly instruct your child we need to have an accurate idea about who will be returning and who will be transitioning to remote. Please understand that the commitment for remote learning lasts until the beginning of March.

As you may be aware St. Rita School undertakes service projects throughout the school year as part of our social justice outreach. We just completed a food drive for Thanksgiving and I am thankful for the generosity of our school families. Today we are launching our Advent service project to assist Divine Mercy Parish to meet the Christmas needs of families in our own community. We are asking for your support to purchase gift cards to allow for both the wishes and needs of families within our Divine Mercy Parish community. A flyer regarding the details of the project was sent home with your child today and is also available here. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity.

Tomorrow is Veteran’s Day, a day we honor the sacrifices that many men and woman have made over the history of our great country to keep us all living in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Please take some time tomorrow to have your child honor a veteran, living or deceased. Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our case. Stay safe and be well.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi

Xavier High School
Xavier will host an entrance exam on Saturday, November 14 at 8:30 am. The exam will be done online from the comfort of your home.
If you would like your son to take this exam, it would be best if you completed his entrance exam registration as soon as possible. Start by going to www.xavierhighschool.org and click Apply Now. By applying now, your son will have the opportunity to earn a scholarship to attend Xavier and be eligible to participate in events we have for admitted students throughout the winter and spring.
All application materials are due by November 23. Those include an essay, letters of recommendation, and report cards. Decision letters will be sent out in mid-December. Financial aid applications are now open as well and all materials for financial aid are due by December 30.

Picture Re-Take Day has been scheduled for Wednesday, December 9. Re-takes and sibling pictures
will be taken in the morning in school.

Remote learners may re-take and take sibling
pictures in the church basement in the afternoon.

If your child will be doing re-takes, please send in the original package for return on the re-take day.
This week is Discover Catholic Schools Week. Catholic schools have a
specific purpose to form students to be good citizens of the world,
love God and neighbor and enrich society with the leaven of the gospel
and by example of faith. Throughout the week we will be sharing what
makes St. Rita School special from our students and faculty, to our religious and Alumni. Please follow us on Facebook and our website
for the wonderful "happenings" at SRS this week! And share with
your friends and family why you love St. Rita School.

Monday was Discover Catholic School Students. All of our students
did an amazing job writing and drawing why they love St. Rita School.
This is just a small sample of the amazing words and images that
represent our students and school. Many more will be shared in the
coming days... Today is Discover Catholic School Parents. Mrs. Beerli has created a mini-workshop packet for our 6th Grade Parents and Students.

Please read the attached updated Connecticut travel advisory. If you
and/or your family have traveled to any of these states and have
stayed for more then 24 hours you will need to get a COVID test
within 72 hours upon arriving back in Connecticut. Your children can
not return to school until they present a negative COVID test or
after a quarantine of 14 days.
Please inform the office of any travel plans in the coming months. We appreciate your vigilance on this matter as we continue to work to keep our Saint Rita School community safe and healthy.
Thank you to everyone for keeping your children home when they are not feeling well and keeping us informed of any illnesses. With your cooperation we will continue to keep our school community safe.

Just a few reminders:

- If your child is home sick for more then 24 hours we will need a doctors note in order for them to return to school.

- This year with COVID-19 continuing to be active the State Department of Public Health is encouraging everyone to receive an Influenza Vaccination by the end of October. The vaccinations are now readily available. Once your child receives the vaccine, please send proof into school for the nurse to document.

- If your child is home sick and the doctor recommends a COVID test please do not get a rapid test. We will only be accepting the PCR test in order to return to school.

- many of us suffer from seasonal allergies and may experience symptoms similar to COVID-19.

Symptoms more common of seasonal allergies and not COVID-19 are itchy or watery eyes and sneezing.

Symptoms more common if COVID-19 are fever and chills, muscle and body aches, new loss of taste or smell, nausea or vomiting and Diarrhea.

If you obtain positive results after school hours, please email Mrs. Tiezzi (ptiezzi.stritaschool@gmail.com) and the nurse (lpalma.stritaschool@gmail.com)

When in doubt call your pediatrician.
