A Message from the Director of College Counseling: |
Dear Carondelet Community,
It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is right around the corner, but the school year is definitely in full swing and the holidays are upon us. Our students have been busy this fall, especially our seniors, who have the added workload of college applications. We’re incredibly proud of their hard work and look forward to celebrating their admissions decisions in the coming months. For those with senior daughters, please encourage them to complete their UC/CSU applications before Thanksgiving so they can fully relax and enjoy their much-needed, week-long break. A helpful tip we've heard from past seniors is to gently ask well-meaning relatives to avoid college conversations during the holidays, as these discussions can add stress for students who are already feeling the pressure.
As we move into December and January, College Counselors are excited to turn our attention to other grade levels:
Juniors: The college application process ramps up with a mandatory X block presentation on Dec. 6 where students will hear from an admissions representative from the University of San Diego. After winter break, we will be having our first Kickstart Bootcamp session on Saturday, January 25. Registration is now open for all three sessions: January, June, and August. Each session will cover unique topics, so juniors are strongly encouraged to attend all of them. Additionally, parents are invited to join a Coffee with the Counselor on November 22 at 8:45 AM via Zoom. This casual event is a wonderful opportunity to ask any questions about the college process.
Sophomores: College Counselors will be presenting to classes December 5 and 6 about how to select courses for next year and some preliminary college search information. Sophomore parents are also invited to attend a Coffee with the Counselor on Nov. 22 at 8:45 AM via Zoom.
Freshmen: Class presentations for freshmen will take place January 14 and 15 and a parent information session will be held on Zoom January 16. College Counselors will be covering important information about selecting courses for sophomore year and how we will be working with students throughout the upcoming years.
All grade levels are invited to a college fair on Dec. 3 at De La Salle during 7th period.
As we approach the end of the semester, encourage students who are struggling in classes to seek help from teachers. The earlier students ask for help, the more likely they are to be successful in their classes.
College Counselors are thankful for our students and the partnership that we have with parents. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, and best of luck to all of our seniors working hard on their final applications!

Attendance Updates
As we enter into the last weeks of the semester, we want to remind students and families of the importance of regular school attendance and proactive communication with our Attendance Office. Attendance is required during finals week and critical for closing out the semester. If your student will be missing finals, for any reason, please reach out to Nicole Ebert in Attendance as soon as possible.

Winter Outerwear
With the cooler months upon us, we are now allowing plain, solid-colored outerwear jackets and raincoats, and Carondelet or De La Salle sweatshirts to protect from the cold and potentially wet weather. Students are not permitted to wear flannels, “fuzzy” sweatshirts, and non-uniform sweatshirts.
