BUSINESS ITEMS

A. The Board approved a revision to the 2025–2026 school calendar affecting high school students only. On April 7 and April 15, 2026, all high school students will participate in virtual learning, except for 11th graders, who will be on campus for State Science and ACT testing. This adjustment helps maintain an optimal testing environment and follows similar schedules in previous years, which led to improved test performance.

B. The Board approved the Piedmont High School Virtual Plan for the 2026–2027 school year in accordance with a new Oklahoma law that limits how virtual learning days can be used and approved. The plan now moves to the Oklahoma State Department of Education for final approval. All schools are required to submit an approved virtual plan for 2026–2027 as part of the state Accreditation process.

C. The Board approved the adoption of Policy DOC – Faculty Assignment and Reassignment When Opening a New Facility or Dividing an Existing Faculty. This policy formally outlines the process for staff transfers related to the opening of a new school.

D. The Board approved a 30-day trial agreement with Mobile Beacon as an alternative source for bus Wi-Fi at no cost during the trial period. Tommy Buckner, Chief Technology Officer, explained that recent federal funding changes mean the government will no longer cover bus Wi-Fi costs. Currently, 34 buses are equipped with AT&T FirstNet service at $34 per month per bus, which also supports tools like StopFinder. Mobile Beacon offers comparable service for $10 per month per bus after the trial. The district can cancel the current AT&T plan with no penalties, allowing flexibility to explore the more cost-effective option.

E. The Board approved a revision to the Rates of Pay, adding Game-Activity Worker to the existing category of Concession/Gate/Game-Activity Workers. This clarifies roles and ensures that all workers are paid at the same rate.

F. The Board approved updates to the English Language Facilitator job description. The position will be renamed Facilitator while maintaining the same pay (Teacher Pay + Stipend).

G. The Board approved the creation of the Stone Ridge Intermediate Principal position and authorized posting. Filling this leadership role is the first priority, and the new principal will oversee hiring for all remaining staff positions. One of the current Intermediate assistants is expected to step into the assistant principal role.

H. The Board approved a Zonda Demographic Study for $36,500 from the Bond Fund. The study will provide updated data for the realignment of attendance boundaries across the district. Using data-driven information ensures better decision-making and allows the district to communicate new boundaries clearly to patrons. Zonda’s analysis includes future construction permits, helping the district plan accurately.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

Dr. Eichelberger highlighted several key updates and initiatives across the district. He began by reviewing plans for honoring veterans on November 11, 2025, noting assembly schedules to invite our community to honor those who have served.

He also shared that Lindel Fields, our new Oklahoma State Superintendent, had recognized Piedmont staff in a social media post, praising their dedication with the sentiment, “If you aren’t taking care of students, take care of someone who is.” He expressed excitement about this leadership change.

Dr. Eichelberger reported a slight enrollment increase district-wide, noting Stone Ridge is serving a large number of students.

He highlighted the ongoing support of the Piedmont Foundation, which awarded $41,000 in grants for the 2025–26 school year. This funding benefits students, schools, and district initiatives, including $5,000 allocated for Capturing Kids’ Hearts professional development. Brett Cannon, Assistant Principal at Piedmont Intermediate, shared that the training sessions through CKH have strengthened staff relationships and engagement, with positive feedback emphasizing practical strategies that can be applied both in and out of the classroom.
