OUR MISSION:

St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.

We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear SRS Parents and Guardians,

This Sunday, November 17, St. Rita School will host an Open House in conjunction with Discover Catholic Schools Week from 12:30-2:00 P.M., for prospective students and their families. Since our current families are the best ambassadors for our school, please invite your friends, neighbors, and family members to take advantage of this opportunity to tour St. Rita School. Individualized tours by our Crusader Club members and the opportunity to speak directly with our dedicated and supportive faculty will allow our visitors to hear about our strong academic programs and extracurricular offerings. More details can be found here.

Recently our Catholic Schools Superintendent, Mrs. Valarie Mara, wrote an opinion piece published in the Hartford Courant entitled “Aspiring to something greater for CT students and youth in Catholic school”. The article can be found here.

The Feast day for Blessed Clelia Merloni, foundress of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, is this coming Wednesday, November 20. Both Sr. Anne and Sr. Barbara are daughters of Blessed Mother Clelia and share their gifts and talents with all members of our school community. We are so grateful for their support. To learn more about Blessed Clelia and her charism of profound love for God and for others, the movie “100 Hearts: Betrayal and Forgiveness in the Life of Blessed Clelia Merloni” will premier on The Catholic TV Network on November 20 at 1:00 and 8:00 P.M. It’s the perfect way to celebrate her feast day!

The first trimester ends on November 21, and report cards will be issued the following week. Parents of students in grades 4-8 have access to their child’s grades. Please take the time over the next few days to look at your child’s grades along with your child, and remind him/her about his/her responsibility when it comes to completing and turning in work and making up any missed work or tests. Now is the time to have your child arrange extra help sessions if they are struggling. Do not ask your child’s teacher for any extra credit work if your child is not completing their assigned work.

Our winter sports season is underway and basketball games will be starting in December. In order to allow for families to worship together and to ensure the proper focus of our Catholic School Athletic programs, no practices or games will be scheduled to begin earlier than 12:00 noon on Sundays. Due to the demands of youth sports and the desire for our student athletes to compete, many of our families struggle with balancing faith and sports. The Archdiocese of Hartford recently shared a video on youth sports which I would like all our parents to watch and share. Please follow this link.

Today is World Kindness Day. Please have your children go out into the world and spread a bit of kindness to those they meet. It’s really quite easy to do! We all can pay others a compliment, smile and say hello, express gratitude, hold a door open, be a positive light, pray for someone, pray with someone going through a difficult time, offer a helping hand, say please and thank you. To quote Fred Rogers, “There are three ways to ultimate success-The first way is to be kind, the second way is to be kind and the third way is to be kind. Imagine what our neighborhoods would be like if each of us offered, as a matter of course, just one kind word to another person.”

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care.

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Attention Parents!

St. Rita School is hosting an Open House for prospective families this Sunday, from 12:30 - 2:00 pm.

Now is the time to spread the word about SRS to your friends, family, and colleagues.

SRS families will receive a $250 tuition credit for the 2025-2026 school year when you refer a family that enrolls.

For more information please visit our website: https://www.stritaschool.org/Referral-Program

Just a reminder – there are two changes to the FACTS lunch ordering system. We are no longer able to add lunches after 8 pm the night before.

If your child comes in without a lunch, and is not on the hot lunch list, you must provide a lunch for them. Also, payment is required at the time of order. If payment is not made, the order will not go through, and your child will not be on the hot lunch list for the day.

Please watch the colors (explained on the top right side of the order menu) to be sure you have ordered AND paid for your child’s lunch.

Also, because of the new system, there will be no refunds for lunches because of absence. Once your order is placed, a lunch will be made for your child.

Thank you for your understanding.

Legacy Studios photographers will be here on Friday, November 22 for students who missed portrait day, families who would like sibling pictures,

and/or re-takes.

Nurse's Corner

COVID and respiratory virus policy change:

In conjunction with the health department, Hamden Public Schools and Saint Rita School will be adopting the new COVID policy.

If your child tests positive for COVID, they should stay home for 24 hours.

If they do not present with a fever , they can return to school after 24 hours. Wearing a mask for 5 days is advised as there is still a high transmission rate.

If they develop a fever, they should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine. They can then return to school and it is advised that they wear a mask for 5 days.

If during the 5 day mask period they develop a fever, the clock resets. They should remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine. Returning to school with a mask for 5 days is advised.

Medication in school:

If your child requires medication in school, the medication must be brought in by a parent along with a Medication Administration in School

completed by the pediatrician.

Cough drops brought into school must stay in the nurse's office.

Any OTC medication should not be sent into school with your child (Advil, Tylenol, midol, allergy medicine, etc...) If your child requires any OTC medicine while at school they can go to the nurses office and a parent will be called to bring the medicine into school and administer it to their child.

PreSchool Flu Shots:

All Pre school students are required to get a flu vaccine before we leave for Christmas break. Please send in a note from the doctor after your child receives their flu shot.

7th Grade Physicals:

All students entering 7th grade must have a physical dated after May 31st of the 5th grade year. They are also required to have a tetanus booster and meningitis vaccine. If your child is in the 6th grade now, physicals for 7th grade can be sent into the health office at any time during this school year. Any physical dated after May 31, 2024 will be accepted.

Nut allergies in the classroom:

If your child is in a classroom with a student with a severe nut allergy, your child's teacher will have informed you that any foods containing nuts should only be eaten in the cafeteria. Please do not send in a snack with nut ingredients. Thank you for helping us to keep all of our students safe.

Please reach out to me at any time during the school year with any health questions or concerns.

Please pray for all the deceased members of our
