Pharmacy Doctoral Student’s Article in National Publication Inspires Peers to Explore Entrepreneurship

Notre Dame of Maryland University’s (NDMU) Doctor of Pharmacy candidate, Jasra Noor Zaheer D'26, doesn’t intend to wait decades for pharmacy ownership, it is a vision she is already pursuing.

“I grew up watching my family pour time and energy into something they could call their own,” Zaheer said. “That exposure shaped the way I view business. Risk didn’t mean fear- it meant opportunity.”

NDMU Students Participate in Point of Dispensing (POD) Exercise

On October 7, the Maryland Board of Pharmacy Emergency Preparedness Task Force (EPTF) partnered with Notre Dame of Maryland University to conduct a Point of Dispensing (POD) exercise for health-professions students and faculty. Approximately 140 students from the Pharmacy, Nursing, Physician Assistant, and Occupational Therapy programs participated in a large-scale simulation of a public-health response to an aerosolized anthrax release, practicing triage, medication screening, and rapid dispensing workflows which could dispense hundreds of doses per hour.

The drill incorporated QR codes and mobile technology to electronically complete medication-screening forms, significantly improving speed and accuracy, and allowed faculty to practice operational leadership roles they would assume in a real activation. We are grateful for the support of Baltimore City Health Department staff (Kim Eshleman, Joe White) and Thomas Franklin of the Howard County Health Department, whose mobile app enabled seamless patient data capture.
