PG&E PSPS Power Outage Planned for Lafayette on Wednesday, Nov. 20
Post Date: 11/18/2019 12:00 PM City of Lafayette
The City of Lafayette has been notified by PG&E that the utility will be conducting a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, affecting areas of Moraga, Orinda, and Lafayette in response to weather conditions that are forecast in the East Bay on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. If there are no changes to the weather forecast, PG&E will begin de-energizing power lines on
Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Once the weather event has passed, PG&E will inspect and re-energize the power lines. This will affect approximately 7,467 PG&E customers in Lafayette (18,584 in Lamorinda).
This means that electrical power could be shut off as early as Wednesday, November 20, at 9:00 a.m. (09:00 PST 20 Nov 2019), and will be off until at least Thursday morning, November 21.
Here are some tips to help prepare:
- Plan for your family and pet medical needs. Do you have enough prescription meds? If you have major medical needs that depend upon electricity, is it safer for you to relocate to a friend’s or family member’s home out of the area?
- Have an emergency supply kit with food and water.
- Flashlights? Extra batteries?
- Keep all of your mobile devices charged.
- Identify backup charging methods.
- Store water and non-perishable foods.
- If you have a generator, do you have extra fuel?
- Keep vehicle fuel tanks full.
- Remember, gas stations, stores and ATMs in the immediate area will be closed.
- Know how to use the manual release on your garage door.
- Talk with your neighbors and friends and share your plans.
During the outage:
- Keep freezers and refrigerators closed.
- Monitor freezer and refrigerator temperatures with a thermometer.
- Use perishable food supplies first.
- Use generators, stoves and grills outdoors away from windows.
- Disconnect electronics and appliances to avoid damage from electrical surges.
- Check on neighbors, animals and family.
- Drive safely and slowly as traffic signals may not be functioning properly.
Lafayette Police will be increasing patrols and are working with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and other public safety agencies to ensure our community remains safe. All the agencies are collaborating to ensure accurate and timely information is provided to all Lamorinda residents.

Open to the Public November-December, Monday–Friday 10am-5pm, 23 Orinda Way Suite 301, Orinda
Samadian Gallery in Orinda presents, now through December, engaging abstract paintings by Irenka Kudlicki and alluring pastels by Dalia Alekna. Both Lamorinda Arts Alliance (LAA) artists were members of the Lafayette Gallery and the Diablo Fine Art Gallery.
The newly established Samadian Gallery at 23 Orinda Way Suite 301, Orinda, is an exceptional venue in which to view rotating exhibits by LAA member artists. The gallery is hosted by a local business – Dr. Amin Samadian’s Comprehensive & Advanced Dentistry – in support of local artists.

The reception will feature wine tasting from Scout & Cellar, a provider of specialty wines not available in stores. This will be a wonderful opportunity to mingle with the artists and enjoy a taste of specialty wines!
This exhibit is supported by Lamorinda Arts Alliance, a non-profit organization that supports local artists. For more than two decades, LAA has promoted the visual arts though exhibits in libraries and businesses, at open studio events, street fairs, and lectures, and in the community's art galleries.
Grand Re-Opening of the Moraga Art Gallery
Although the Moraga Art Gallery has moved just 200 yards to a new home, it has raised its stature considerably as a must-see Moraga landmark.
To celebrate its re-opening in a spacious, light-filled oasis in the Rheem Shopping Center, the gallery invites the public to a free reception on Saturday, November 23 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at 432 Center Street (between Nation's and the Dover Saddlery.) Come to meet more than a dozen artists, both old and new, to sip wine, enjoy snacks, hear live music and admire an assemblage of artwork, some never before displayed in Moraga.
The show, entitled "Serendipities," which runs from November 20th to February 1st, includes abstract paintings by guest artist Graig Crossley of Moraga, who uses a full palette of blazing primary colors to startling effect. Also, a selection of museum-quality wooden bowls by guest artist Rick Nelson, and an oversized metal sculpture by popular Joe Bologna, which serves as the show's centerpiece along with jewelry by K. de Groot and walls lined with photographs of landscapes by Wenda Pyman and florals by Lucy Beck.
Open daily from 10:00 to 6:00 between December 1st and 25th, the gallery offers a cornucopia of tasteful holiday gifts for discerning buyers. For more information, visit the gallery’s website:
