November 19 Greetings
Dear Ones,

It’s Thursday, as we continue to “Be Church Together” even as the church building is closed for gatherings. I am on several mailing lists and this was in my inbox this week; it really resonated with me today, I hope it is helpful for you as well.
From Bishop Mark Holmerud, Sierra Pacific Synod, ELCA
Four words: It’s not time yet.
It’s not time yet:
+ to return to indoor worship
+ to stop wearing masks
+ to forget physical distancing
+ to ignore science
+ to gather in large groups for Thanksgiving
+ to deny the exponential growth of cases of COVID-19 being diagnosed every day in this country and around the world

Four more words: I know you’re tired.
I know you’re tired:
+ of not being able to be with family and friends
+ of not being able to worship together in the sanctuary and sing
+ of not being able to travel
+ of not being able to leave your home
+ of not being able to hold your grandchildren/children/loved ones
+ of hearing admonitions like this from health professionals and bishops

Four last words: God is in control (Psalm 23).
God is in control:
+ even (and especially) in this time of pandemic (Psalm 91)
+ despite what some see as evidence to the contrary (Psalm 46)
+ through the work of health care workers, clinicians, and epidemiologists (Sirach 38)
+ in the presence of courageous essential workers (Ecclesiastes 3:1-15)
+ as we help God’s reign come near in seeking the well-being of the most vulnerable among us (Matthew 25:31-46)
+ because nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Rom. 8:31-39)

Blessings and Peace in this season of Thanksgiving,
Bp. Mark
We will continue to hold Sunday afternoon Worship in the Park(ing Lot) at 1:00 p.m. until the weather gets too cold! Get your RSVPs in via the Constant Contact link (sent to you on Monday at 6:30 p.m.) or call the church office to reserve your space. Bring your own chair, a jacket and maybe a throw for your lap, and we will praise God together! If we have to cancel due to cold or wind, a message will be on the church phone and an email will be sent out on the Saturday before.
Keep an eye out in your home mailbox for a survey request from the Church in a Changing World Task Force. We need to schedule live streaming worship times and are looking for you input. Please drop your responses in the mail or the lockbox outside the front doors of the church as soon as possible. Advent is fast approaching!

Emmanuel has been given the names of three families from Mountain View Elementary School who need some help making Christmas special this year. An Angel Tree will be set up in the narthex by next week and you can stop by to pick up a gift request and then bring the wrapped and tagged gift back to the church. You can call the church and Mary will help you make a selection if you aren’t able to stop by during office hours.

I follow the Angeles Crest Creamery on Facebook. Here is a barn tour; the goats have been very busy. What’s cuter than baby goats!
Speaking of cute, I love this duo so much that I have subscribed! Here is Brooklyn Duo playing Mariah Carey’s “Always Be My Baby”, dedicated to baby Archie!
The church office is staffed from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. most weekdays. Please call ahead to let us know that you are coming or knock loudly when you have arrived!

Remember that we are asking everyone to wear masks when you are in the building with others, especially for those working the Interfaith Meal. If you need a mask, we have extras in the church office.
Dear ones, be safe, get a flu shot, check in with each other, and don’t hesitate to call me (310-890-9785) or the church office (928-772-4135) if you need something, or email emmanuelelca@gmail.com if you have something to share.
Janet saw this tree on her dog walk yesterday! I’d love to see pictures from your daily walks.
A Bible verse for today:

My child, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments.
