National Recognition 

Congratulations to our very own Brian Bizik, a physician assistant at Nampa 16th Urgent Care. He’s been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA).


The award is bestowed for outstanding dedication in the PA profession. Brian has a special interest in asthma and was recently published in The Journal of Asthma.

Brian studied biology at Boise State (BS), Nutrition and Biochemistry at Oregon State (MS) and Physician Assistant studies at Idaho State. Many patients with asthma, COPD and allergy problems like hives or seasonal allergies are referred to him. On a personal level he’s a bird watcher and Spartan racer. His wife, Amy Bizik, also works for TRHS as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. We are honored to have Brian on our Team!

Free Gunlocks and Suicide Prevention Resources

Terry Reilly Health Services has partnered with Saltzer Health and SelectHealth to create a free resource aimed at preventing suicide. 


Idaho has the fifth-highest rate of suicide by firearm in the country. Research shows that putting space and time between a person who is struggling and a firearm can save a life by allowing the crisis period to subside and the person to get help.


The flyer attached to the locks educates about suicide warning signs, provides conversation tips for intervention, and outlines safe gun storage. We’re working with partners to distribute throughout our community, and we're also making them available to Terry Reilly patients through all providers and to all Terry Reilly employees. If you’d like one, please contact Jamie Powell in the communications office at [email protected]

BSU Career Fair

Jon Polanco, Recruiter, and Erica Mendez, Student Programs Coordinator, attended the BSU career fair on October 19. "We had a high level of interest from students wanting to learn more about what potential opportunities at Terry Reilly Health Services might align with their career path," Erica said. 


Erica and Jon met with ther organizations like Highland Springs, Women’s and Children’s Alliance, IPCA, and other universities to explore possible future collaboration.


The recruiting team will be at the Carrington College-Boise Campus Career Fair on November 3.

Reading Nutrition Labels

We often hear it's important to eat healthy, but what does that really mean? There are so many foods making health claims, how are we supposed to know what's healthy and what's just marketing? Read the label. Here are 7 steps for reading nutrition labels that will help you make healthy food choices.



  1. Start with the serving size. This is important when thinking about how much you eat. Keep In mind that all information on the label is based on one serving of the food. A package of food often contains more than one serving, so if you eat more than the serving size, you'll need to calculate that for the total nutrients consumed. 
  2. Look at the calorie count. Calories are a way to measure the amount of energy a food provides. We often consume more calories than needed, without getting essential nutrients. Consider this general per-serving guide: 40 calories is low, 100 calories is moderate, and 400 calories or more is high.
  3. Limit certain nutrients. Certain nutrients can impact your health if you consume too many. Saturated and trans fats are linked to an increased risk of heart disease, while high levels of sodium can lead to high blood pressure. Too much sugar can make it difficult to meet your nutrient needs without increasing your calorie intake. Nutrition labels now show the amount of added sugars, which you'll also want to watch out for. 
  4. Increase certain nutrients. Vitamins and minerals can help improve your health and reduce your risk for certain diseases and conditions. Consider increasing your intake of fiber, vitamin D, calcium, and iron. It's best to eat more fruits and vegetables to get enough of these nutrients. 
  5. Know your daily values (DV). Daily values are an easy way to track your intake of nutrients. They are all based on the average levels of nutrients for a person eating 2,000 calories a day. The daily value percent is for the entire day, so if a food item lists, "5% DV of fat," it provides 5 percent of the total fat that a person should eat for the whole day. 
  6. Understand how to use your daily values. There are certain nutrients we want to decrease and others that we want to increase. Five percent is considered to be low. Try to keep saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, and added sugar in this low range. Twenty percent is considered to be high. This is where we want our vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
  7. Read the ingredients. When it comes down to it, the ingredient list will tell you exactly what's in the food you're consuming. They are listed in order from the largest amounts to the smallest amounts. Try to avoid artificial flavors and coloring, and stick with foods that list ingredients you recognize.

David Vilchis Sanchez 

I have worked at Terry Reilly for over 3 years now. My career began with applying for a Patient Access position at Boise 23rd, and now I supervise the front desk. Before I worked for Terry Reilly, I was an administrative assistant for a nonprofit.


My favorite thing about working for Terry Reilly is my care team: Providers, Medical Assistants, and the front desk team. We go above and beyond for our patients, fulfilling the organization’s mission and our core values. 


Outside of work, I have a background in competitive cheer and dance, so I enjoy taking dance classes. I'm also a drag performer in Boise! I’ve been a drag artist for 4 years, and enjoy advocating and inspiring my community through the magic of drag performance. I'm also a runner, so I love getting on the greenbelt when the weather permits.

    

I chose to work at Terry Reilly because growing up Mexican American and being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, I experienced the difficulties of accessing healthcare without insurance and the fear and uncertainty of seeking medical care. I have always felt a responsibility to be of service to both of my communities. They’re the reason I am able to work and keep a roof over my head. At Terry Reilly, I’ve been able to help create a better experience for our patients when they have their first encounter at the front desk. I am both lucky and grateful to help others for a living.
