Human Resources Substitute Coordinator/Caller Update

Our current Substitute Coordinator Mike Iselin will be transitioning from his current role of Administrative Associate/Substitute Coordinator position to a role in Facilities and Grounds on December 5th, 2022. An appreciation goes out to Mike for his dedication over the years for supporting schools and departments.

The Human Resources team will be working to ensure a smooth transition in this integral position in coordinating substitutes and overseeing Absence Management. The position has been posted and we are actively recruiting quality candidates. More details will be provided as we move forward.

One change we will be instituting is that on November 28th, we are asking employees that have questions regarding Paid Time Off (PTO) and Absence Management to send any questions or information to the following email address: hremployeeattendance@sunprairieschools.org The email address will be monitored by a small number of Human Resources team members to ensure timely responses and smooth transition.

The Gift of Giving

Consider giving yourself the gift of wellness by participating in our fun and motivating Holiday Wellness Bingo Challenge! To participate, simply complete as many of the activities as you can on THIS bingo through December 31st. Check off “DONATE to those in need” by sponsoring a family and/or donating new/gently used adult/youth waterproof gloves, winter hats, snow pants, winter jackets, and/or winter boots. Donations can be dropped off at the Cards Closet donation box on 1632 W Main Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and/or the District Support Center at 501 South Bird Street Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m for the entire month of November.

Healthcare Consumerism Prescription Medication Tip: The exact same prescription can cost vastly different depending on the pharmacy you use to fill the prescription. One of our District’s highest claims categories is prescription medications. Reducing our costs in this area can assist us in maintaining lower insurance premiums and save our District money. Simply use SSM Dean Pharmacies or Costco Mail Order for maintenance prescriptions to assist with this cost savings. Also, consider checking out  GoodRX Cost Compare Tool which could be less expensive than your copay.

Ladder Safety

Please consider proper ladder safety at all times.  Proper use of a ladder that is in good condition is critical to workplace safety.  Believe it or not, a common occurrence is that people do not use a ladder when they should!  Never use other furniture when a ladder would be a safer option (some best practices can be found here).

Falls due to inappropriate use of equipment (i.e. tables or chairs instead of a ladder) continue to be on OSHA’s Top Ten Workplace Safety Violations List.  In fact, that was #4 on the list in 2022.

With this in mind, please consider these three important “steps when planning to use a ladder.  Also, when unsure, please always consult with Facilities & Grounds personnel to determine how and if a ladder should be used.

Always assess your surroundings and equipment and be intentional about when and how you use a ladder.  Thank you for making safe choices every day!

Winter is here!

Winter weather season officially hit this week. Salting and plowing operations are initiated whenever snow or ice accumulates to make a hazardous situation. However, salting and plowing cannot remove the hazard completely. Even in a plowed and salted parking lot, slippery situations can present themselves.

A few tips for winter-weather safety:

AVID | From Katie Janssen

Sun Prairie AVID scholars took part in our first campus visits of the year.  AVID 8 visited UW-Madison to meet with Advancing Diversity and Excellence in Physical Therapy (ADEPT), a student group working to develop and support pathways to excellence for young people from groups currently underrepresented in the physical therapy profession.  They also explored the Physics, Art, and Geology museums.  AVID 9 and 10 also visited UW-Madison for an admissions presentation to learn more about campus culture, academic offerings, the application process, and financing your education as well as a campus tour.  In the coming weeks, AVID 11 and 12 are heading to Edgewood College for an admissions presentation and campus tour.  Students will be venturing to more colleges and universities across the state during the second semester.

Data and Assessment Update  From Robin Gardner

Helpful Hints!

Here are some helpful how-to’s as you engage in PLTs or individual student planning meetings.

A grade-level and/or classroom-level search yields charts describing student proficiency for measures that apply to your grade level such as: TC Phonics, Bridges, FASTbridge, STAR, Gradebook, School Perceptions, attendance, behavior, etc!  These charts and data wall views can help make student/ problem identification more efficient while freeing up time to do the important instructional planning and implementation work. Note that you can switch charts view to the data wall view by clicking on “data wall” in the upper right hand corner following a search like below:

When meeting individual student needs, use the student profile page as essentially an online cumulative file of present performance, educational history, and progress monitoring. Remember everything in eduCLIMBER is interactive so feel free to click around on charts/data points to “drill down!”

Happy eduCLIMBIN’

COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

One of the four pillars of Community Schools is Active Family and Community Engagement. This week our site coordinators, Brian Mckenzie, Stacey Christenson, and Stacy Darga partnered with our local Boys & Girls Club to prepare and distribute meals for their annual Give Thanks Community Meal. Families could drive through to receive some holiday meal staples. The Community Meals were distributed at three different Boys & Girls Club sites: Sun Prairie, Fitchburg, and Madison. This is both an example of our community collaboration and ensuring our students and families have their basic needs met.
