Mark Linden, CEC AAC NOVEMBER 2013 From the Range Greetings Fellow Culinarians and Associates I apologize for the lateness of this letter. Seems at times our professional lives get the better of us. We have recently completed our application for a regional chapter achievement award and I was struck by how active we are as a chapter. When you put it all in writing one can see how many events and activities we have been involved in. Our efforts towards charitable events is commendable and I thank all of you for your participation in these events, as it takes all of you to pull it off. Those who have provided leadership in these events deserve many thanks as well as it takes a great deal of time and effort to coordinate these. November 2013 Meeting Our November meeting brings our annual elections. This year we will be voting for your president and secretary. Tony Parker has been nominated to be your president and Janet Waters has been nominated to be your secretary. Both have accepted and will make excellent officers for our chapter. Both are long standing members who are very active in our chapter and have provided excellent service to us in many ways. We also have several members to be voted in as board members. This takes some time commitment from each member and is time that is highly appreciated by all. Please make every effort to attend. The meeting will be in a new location for us. The chef for The Rainer Golf Club will host our annual Holiday event. He is providing a wonderful 3 course menu at a very affordable price. Please make your reservations. This event is also for our annual silent auction. This raises funds for our scholarship programs. Should you have anything you wish to donate please contact Gary Fuller at [email protected]. One may ask why a holiday event in the early part of November? With the month of December very busy for most of us and the declining attendance, we discussed the idea of having it either in November or January and concluded November would be a better choice. The month of December will have no regular meeting or board meeting scheduled. Holiday Season We are coming into the holiday season and it is a time to remember the many blessings we have been given and to be thankful for these as well. It is also a tough time for many people due to family loss, bad economic situations and other reasons. Please take a few moments and look around and see how you can take your talents and use them to benefit others. There are many organizations that need help in food preparation for large groups. It is amazing how a plate of nicely prepared hot food can warm the spirits of those in need. Many times we have good quality leftovers in smaller quantities that can be packed up in aluminum single serve containers or smaller half pan sizes and frozen. These can be stored and delivered to homeless shelters, church sponsored feeding centers, or heated up and passed out to so many people we see on the streets and corners in our neighborhoods or places of business. A little effort goes along way in the hearts of those who receive it. A joyous holiday season to all. Certification Congratulations to Phillip Keefe, our newest chef who has certified at the CEC level. He prepared some very good food for his practical exam and had a smooth flowing game plan to get him there. We are here to help any and all who are considering certification and can be available to answer any question. We have several chefs within our chapter who volunteer their time to administer this exam. These chefs are John Fisher, Gary Fuller, Dan Lewark, Tony Parker and myself. Michael McBride serves as the test administrator. We thank each of them for this commitment. I want to remind you that the value of certification is such a great addition to your career that we as a chapter will pay for the fees associated with certification. The rule is simple, pass the test and we will reimburse the certification test fees up to $500.00.
