IMPORTANT!! OUR ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING IS SCHEDULED - Please attend on Friday, November 3rd at 9:15 a.m. A Note from President Don Dempson
|
|
November is our Annual General Meeting - Please make sure you take the time to attend! This event is a cornerstone for our club and it's a time for us to review the year, welcome our new leadership and review the upcoming budget.
Throughout 2017, our Club enjoyed another series of exceptional experiences; we've added a significant number of new people, watched others take leadership roles, run with fabulous Out and Abouts and heard how our interest groups have thrived.
Our new President as of January 2018 will be Marnie Swanson. Other new members to the Management Team are:
Treasurer: Linda Burrows
Membership Chair: Barbara Hartley
Hospitality co-Chairs: Leslie and Al MacDonald
All other existing team members will be staying on for another year. Many thanks to them for staying on, as well as to departing members Bonnie Howell (Membership) and Doug Pearson (Treasurer)
The AGM is your forum, and it's your opportunity to bring questions to the table. Help us continue to make our club something special.

REPORT ON OKTOBERFEST - NWB PROBUS Members were there! October 13
|
|
Friday the 13th was a lucky day for those
eight hardy members of our club who attended the rollicking Oktoberfest party in Qualicum Beach.
We were entertained by the lively Oom Pah Pah band and the appropriately- dressed patrons roaming the German-style beer hall in dirndls and lederhosen.

REPORT ON OCTOBER SPEAKER: Our own Don Dempson!
|
|
For an enthralling hour, President Don Dempson, took us behind the scenes at the Calgary Stampede Rodeo showing us how the 'magic' happens.
Each year Don arrives in Calgary 12 days before the grand opening of the "The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth" in order to test every piece of production technology. (And with 38 miles of cable, there is a lot to check!)

Here's What's in the Works...
|
|
You have already read in this issue about our speaker for November, Dean Graham Pike of VIU, who will tell us about the school's international student program. There will be no speaker in December; instead we will ring in the holiday season with our usual Christmas fun, songs and goodies . But other very interesting speakers are lined up in the new year, thanks to Robert Grose:
On
January 5, Kathleen Gilbert's topic will be
Naming the Named: The Surveying, Mapping and Naming of BC's Coast. Then on
February 2 Darin Guenette, Manager of Public Affairs will give us a
BC Ferries Update and promises to answer any of our questions. On
March 2nd we will hear from Dwight Owens on the topic of
Sunken Treasure: Canada's Hydro Thermal Vents.
The big event we are all waiting for is our
ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY, to be held on
December 6th at Fairwinds Golf Club. Read more about it in this issue. In the works for early in 2018 is another
Trivia Night, when our Club will challenge Nanoose Bay Probus Club. Watch your eNews for further details.
