DASNY is committed to providing Minority- and Women-owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) as well as Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses (SDVOB) with opportunities to build their capacity, and is making efforts to directly engage the market and highlight priorities.

That is why on November 1, DASNY hosted an outreach event at the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan. There MWBEs and SDVOBs were provided guidance on how to work with DASNY, and given access to DASNY’s expert staff.

Those in attendance also had the opportunity to hear from Alan Resnick , Vice President at Brailsford & Dunlavey Inc. Resnik spoke on what the market is looking like for alternative delivery projects, particularly in the metro NY area, and how both traditional design and construction firms, as well as specialty consultants like Brailsford can get on teams to work on these projects.

In addition, the audience heard from Joni Capobianco , President of AMG Demolition and Andrew Simmons , President of LaShay Construction. Both MWBE firms provided accounts of their work with DASNY and how they have been able to increase their capacity as a result.
Monumental Moment for Dominican World War II Veterans
During World War II, hundreds of American men and women of Dominican heritage bravely fought for our freedom. While their sacrifices have not been forgotten, there had never been a memorial for people to honor those who put their lives on the line.

That all changed on Friday, November 2, when the ribbon was cut on the campus of Bronx Community College, for the nation’s first “World War II Dominican Veterans Monument.” DASNY constructed the memorial, which consists of a granite wall with the soldiers’ names engraved in it, and provided the surrounding landscaping. Project Manager Samir Rimawi and Jennifer Borgos in Counsel's Office Construction Unit spearheaded the project for DASNY.

“This is a proud day for all Americans whose loved ones fought bravely for our freedom,” said Dr. Gerrard P. Bushell, DASNY President & CEO. “DASNY is pleased to honor the sacrifices so many have made for our country and construct this memorial. To display it on Bronx Community College’s beautiful campus is a privilege.”

The names inscribed on the monument, which include a Tuskegee Airman and a Bronze and Silver Star recipient, were identified through a joint effort between Bronx Community College and the Dominican Studies Institute, researched by a CUNY Dominican Studies Project called “Dominicans in New York.”
New Addiction Treatment Center Opens in North Country
The North Country just strengthened its resources in its fight against addiction. On October 26, the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) officially opened the doors of its new Champlain Valley Family Center Recovery Campus in Schuyler Falls.

DASNY provided design and construction management services for this innovative treatment facility. The team included Sr. Asst. Project Manager Todd Van Wormer, Regional Project Manager Salvatore Renda and Code Administrator John Adams.

“DASNY is proud to team with OASAS to help build stronger, healthier communities throughout New York State,” says Dr. Bushell.

This new center provides detox, stabilization/respite and outpatient substance abuse disorder services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
