Celebrating 50 Years in Gahanna

Over the past 50 years, thousands of students have passed through the doors of Columbus Academy's Gahanna campus with many shared experiences and memories. As a celebration of 50 years on Cherry Bottom Road, we are hoping to capture the memories of those students who were here during the school's opening year.

If you are from the classes that graduated between 1969 and 1981 and were on campus when the school opened during the Fall of 1968, we want to hear from you!  We are looking for pictures, short stories, memories and more. Please submit your thoughts via this brief form by Monday, November 12. We would love to hear from you!

School News

Five more Columbus Academy students have earned recognition in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition to the dozen National Merit Semifinalists announced earlier this fall, Academy seniors Eric DeVore, William Mathews and Jacob Rhee have been named 2019 National Merit Commended Students while Sarah Cabré and Callista Popp are Scholars in the 2018-19 National Hispanic Recognition Program.

Jason Singleton, Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development at The Ohio State University as well as a current Columbus Academy parent, will be our next Director of Athletics! Jason will begin his new role overseeing over 60 different Academy teams on July 1, 2019. He will replace Dominic Facciolla, who is retiring this spring after a successful 20-year stint guiding our Viking athletic programs. Raised in Detroit, Jason is a 2000 graduate from OSU with a B.A. in Communication. As a senior captain of the men's basketball team, he helped the Buckeyes reach the NCAA Final Four. After a professional basketball career in Europe and Australia, Jason earned his M.A. in Educational Administration from Central Michigan University and worked as a teacher and coach in the Detroit Public Schools. From there, he joined the NCAA compliance team and was hired at OSU in 2012 to be part of the university's compliance team. Jason's responsibilities have grown since then, and he now provides leadership, direction and oversight for the Buckeye men's basketball program.
Sports News

Academy's field hockey team defeated Hudson 3-0 this past Saturday to complete a perfect 21-0 season and claim the program's 11th state title. Etching themselves into the record books as arguably the greatest field hockey team in state history, this year's starters did not allow a goal all season and overall outscored opponents 138-1. In the 28 seasons since Coach Anne Horton began the program, our Vikes have reached the Final Four as district champions 22 times, are 17-5 in semifinal matchups and now 11-6 in state championship games.
Our golfers repeated as Division II state champions this fall and have won state titles in three of the last five years under Coach Craig Yakscoe. Their two-day total of 625 (313-312) was nine strokes better than runner-up Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. Ali Khan shot rounds of 76-78 (154) to tie as individual runner-up and joined fellow junior Matthew Cammeyer, who tied for fourth at 155 (78-77), on the All-Ohio First Team while sixth-place finisher Kahmar Byers made the Second Team with a 156 (77-79). Rounding out our lineup were fellow junior Griffin Mitchell's 160 (82-78, t-11th) and freshman Russell Ahmed's 167 (86-81, t-25th) in the field of 12 teams and 72 total competitors. Overall, our boys golf program has won nine team state championships, which is second-most among Ohio high schools trailing only Upper Arlington.
