GVCO: More Than Just A Youth Sports Organization
Despite what you might believe GVCO to be, an organization offering youth sports programs, the Great Valley Community Organization has grown into so much more through the past years.
Did you know that we have had an extensive internship program for the past eight years? Each year we hire 5 to 10 high school juniors to help administer and run our programming. Over the years we have had 19 college or graduate interns working full-time (40 per week) helping manage all that we do.
Did you also know that each year there are an army of student volunteers involved with fundraising and giving back to the community through our student run Caring Hands foundation? This year six high school students hold key leadership positions, organizing a large group of middle and high school volunteers. They will do things like wrap hundreds of donated gifts and deliver them to senior citizens over the holidays, make and serve dinner at a local homeless shelter and do a food drive to support the Frazer Food Pantry. Caring Hands will hold numerous fundraising events throughout the school year and this year alone they have raised over $5000, all of which will go back to numerous causes here in the community.
Over the past 12 years GVCO has grown out of “just” a tremendous youth sports organization. We have created or partnered with other organizations to create programming in dance, theater and arts, educational and tutoring, senior programming, awareness programming and numerous others.
The genesis of all this programming comes from the community. There is often a lack of programming or a certain portion of the community isn’t being serviced, and a request or suggestion arises. As a “community organization” our mission will continue to be the development and administration of quality programming to serve all the residents of our Great Valley community.
