As we move towards the holidays, we reflect on our gratitude to every person and every hand that has made a difference this year.  We are especially grateful that the families of Erica, Matt and Alyssa are home in time for Thanksgiving. There are 8 Habitat families spending their first holiday season in their new homes. We hope you too, take pride in our shared accomplishments.  Below are some photos from our Dedication in Truro last month.

Thank you to the incredible kayak building team, volunteers extraordinaire, Pat Taylor and Bill Witmer. They spend every winter handcrafting a gorgeous kayak and then spend the summer bringing it all over Cape Cod and selling raffle tickets to benefit Habitat Cape Cod.

This October at the Wellfleet Oysterfest, they pulled the winning ticket (with the help of John B. from Centerville).  Congratulations to the 2018 winner, Pasqualina Azzarello from Easthampton, MA!  Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Volunteers Needed
For more information on any of these opportunities email [email protected] or call 508-362-3559 x 16

We are looking for an organized and friendly volunteer to handle Habitat's Housewarming Gifts Program. This position entails coordinating with bookcase and quilt making volunteers and can be done from home. We estimate a committment of 2-4 hours a month.

We also need help with devotions on the Dennis builds. Devotions are a short reminder of why Habitat builds homes. They can be an inclusive prayer, a poem or a story. Devotions can be given by a lay person or a religous or spiritual leader. The committment is approximately an hour once a month or more depending on your availability.

  Volunteer at the ReStore

The ReStore locations in both Yarmouth and Falmouth are seeking volunteers to help with cashiering, greeting customers and donors, staging furniture and home goods, photography, social media, donation receiving and more. We also really need some MUSCLE to help load and unload trucks!

YOU can make a difference by volunteering at our ReStores: Sales at the ReStore make it possible for Habitat to sell its homes at affordable prices, while helping our environment by keeping excellent used goods, like furniture, cabinets and appliances, out of landfills.

The ReStores offer volunteers short, flexible shifts Monday through Saturday, 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm. (Shifts times can  be flexible and you can volunteer as often or as little as you like).

Stop by 28 Whites Path in South Yarmouth and ask for manager Austen Rumberger or stop by 805 Gifford Street in Falmouth and see manager Peter Small to join the ReStore volunteer team.

If you have questions or need more information, please reach out to Habitat Cape Cod Volunteer Services Manager Tara Cronin [email protected]  or 508-362-3559 x 16.

Habitat Cape Cod Office
411 Main Street/6a
Yarmouth Port

Habitat Cape Cod is forming a team trip to Nayarit, Mexico from Saturday, March 9th to Sunday, March 17th. Volunteers will assist a family in the construction of their home and will learn more about the community and culture of Mexico.

The 2019 trip is being led by Tricia Vos, who has led 15 Global Village Trips all over the world and is certified by Habitat International.

Participants must be age 16 and up. (If you are under 18, you must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) We expect many volunteers from all walks of life, ages and abilities, no construction experience is required and suitable tasks at the build site can be found for all.

The cost of the trip is $1,480.  This fee qualifies as a tax-deductible donation to Habitat for Humanity Cape Cod. The trip cost covers all necessary expenses while in Mexico but does not include flights to/from the project location.  We can help you fundraise!

UpcomingTOWN NEWS

Chatham
The Town recently awarded Habitat a parcel of land on George Ryder Rd, south of Route 28, responsive to our proposal to develop two Habitat homes, a 3-bedroom Cape-style, and a 2-bedroom ranch.

Mashpee
Work is well underway for the comprehensive permit application for two homes on Great Neck Rd. North. Watch for our notices of the zoning board hearings in early 2019.

Willett Way, Falmouth
We are still working towards the "green light" to close on this property and commence this project. The Community Preservation Committee has a new application from Habitat under consideration for funds to help with some of the construction costs during t he building of the road and the first six homes.

Sites in early development stages are:
Durkee Lane, Wellfleet; Phase 2 Paul Hush Way, Brewster; Murray Lane, Harwich (utility poles have now been moved); and DeGrass, Mashpee.

Land prospecting, permitting activity, and early site development continues across the Cape.

Habitat Cape Cod 1st Quarter Tithe
The Habitat Board of Directors voted to give our 1st Quarter Tithe to the Orphans and Vulnerable Groups Fund (OVG). This fund supports the efforts of Habitat for Humanity organizations to provide adequate shelter, housing support services and other interventions for the most acutely and uniquely vulnerable people in communities around the world.

These groups - children who have lost one or both parents, people who have a disease or disability, and marginalized people suffering social exclusion - have very limited capacity to escape chronic poverty by themselves. The OVG Fund enables Habitat to provide a hand up through housing solutions to the most vulnerable.

Read more about how funds are distributed.
