What's New?
November 1st hits, Halloween costumes get put away and Christmas goes up everywhere... I saw my first set of Christmas lights last night! To the CS team this time of year means that our Winter/Spring 2019 catalogue is coming out! Courses will be online November 26th and catalogues will be delivered December 3rd.

There are still a lot of courses going on in November & December, as you can see below. Registration can be done online or by phone at 403-529-3844.

Professional Courses:

Project Management (Starts Nov 13th)
This program provides essential training in the flourishing field of project management and is designed to develop introductory project management skills.

This program will provide you with skills and knowledge to effectively manage others and maximize productivity. Combine professional knowledge with people skills to thrive in your management role with increased confidence and purpose.
Incident Investigation (registration Deadline: Nov 15, starts Nov 24)
(Enrichment Seminar) This seminar will step you through the investigation of "unplanned events." Learn the critical parts of the initial response, securing the area, gathering evidence, interviewing techniques, documentation, role of various stakeholders, reporting formats, etc. Also learn the primary reasons for performing incident investigations.
B-Pressure Welding - Uphill (Starts Nov 20th)
This course consists of preparing a Journeyman Welder for challenging the B-Pressure Qualification Test. Students will prepare and weld on 6" Schedule 80 pipe in the 2G & 5G positions. At the end of the course the student may challenge the official Alberta B-Pressure Performance Qualification Test

General Interest Courses:
Learn how to get the best images from your camera as we move beyond the basics. You will have the opportunity to learn creative techniques with exposure using manual modes for shutter, aperture and ISO settings. As well as learning to shoot specific subjects, you will have the opportunity to tailor the course toward your particular interests. Prerequisite: A basic understanding of - and some experience with - digital cameras and digital photography.
Build your confidence and knowledge of basic plumbing techniques and theory in order to perform numerous types of plumbing jobs around the home. You will learn about procedures such as unclogging fixtures, replacing faucets, how to fix leaky or constantly running toilets, and basic soldering.
A Taste of Mexico (Starts Nov 19th)
Have you ever tried Mexican food before and loved it? This class is designed for those who enjoy the taste of Mexican food and want to learn how to cook some authentic homemade Mexican dishes and experiment with different ingredients. With this course, you will broaden your culinary options in your kitchen. You will have a very fun time cooking Mexican food while you learn about Mexican culinary culture and its ancestral origins.

Let your imagination run wild and turn your vision into unique pieces of welded art. Bring your junk tools, wrenches, rakes, old cutlery, etc. anything a magnet will stick to. You will learn how to cut, grind, heat, bend, and weld it all together to make a one-of-a-kind piece of art. So grab an idea from Pinterest and start scrounging now to collect what you will want to work with.

This course is designed for those looking for an easier way to deal with their digital images. Lightroom provides what photographers need to manage, edit, and display all images in one clean, uncluttered, intuitive package. The course provides you with a straightforward introduction to RAW & JPG processing and the most important features of Lightroom.

Brooks Courses:
Building on the Alberta Health Care Aide Certificate program curriculum, this course is designed for health care aides caring for people living with life-limiting illnesses to enhance the capacity of learners to support and care for the dying person and their family.
Students will receive a Bow Valley College certificate once they have successfully completed this course

This program will provide you with skills and knowledge to effectively manage others and maximize productivity. Combine professional knowledge with people skills to thrive in your management role with increased confidence and purpose.

Emerging Industry & Technologies
Solar Training:
(Starts Dec 10th) - NEW DATE!
PV101 is your gateway to a career in the solar industry. It all starts with the fundamentals, and a solid understanding of various components, system architectures, and applications for PV systems.

**This course is eligible for the Canada-Alberta Job Grant if you apply before November 10th!**

Canada-Alberta Job Grant
Canada-Alberta Job Grant released some exciting new changes!!

Changes to the Canada-Alberta Job Grant - means more incentives to train employees.

There are now more ways for Alberta businesses and workers to benefit from the Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG) training subsidy.
  • As always, get up to two-thirds of the cost of training covered for eligible current employees, up to $10,000 per trainee.
  • Up to 100% of training costs reimbursed when hiring and training eligible unemployed Albertans, up to $15,000 per trainee.
  • Sole proprietors can now apply to CAJG to train their employees.
  • Travel assistance will allow more businesses outside Edmonton and Calgary, to train their employees

Below are some interesting examples of how the Canada Alberta Job Grant can save your company some money. If you plan to take any courses (or combination of courses that total over 21 hour), your employer may be eligible for the Canada Alberta Job grant.

Example 1:
Management Skills for Supervisors
Regular price: $1,495 for one participant
Canada Alberta Job Grant pays: $996.67
You pay: $498.33
That's a 66% discount!  
Example 2:
Management Skills for Supervisors
Regular price: $4,485 for three participants
Canada Alberta Job Grant pays: $2,990
You pay: $1,495
That's 3 for the price of 1!

The Canada Alberta Job Grant will reimburse 2/3 of your direct training costs. All of the courses/certificates above are eligible for this grant.

This position will be responsible for instruction of Microsoft Office courses to the general public, and corporate clients. Thorough knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office, particularly in Word and Excel will be required. Software knowledge in other areas would be an asset. Course are delivered through MHC Continuing Studies, and would range from 3 hours to a total of 24 hours.

The theme of this initiative is "I know I can because..." - and the   campaign's website provide unique opportunities to share stories, feature events and advance the national focus on skills.
