Greetings from Council Member Mike Knox
At Large Council Member Pos 1
Election day is November 6. If you have not already mailed in your ballot or voted early, you will need to vote at your specific poll location. To find your election day poll location go to: www.harrisvotes.com
The 2018 Festival of Abilities was a milestone celebration with funding for construction of the first inclusive playground in the central NW area from The Heights to Garden Oaks/Oak Forest and well beyond.
Good sized crowd came out for the 5th annual Jensen Jubilee on the north side. I was happy to saddle up my horse, Peacemaker, and ride with fellow officers of the HPD Mounted Patrol in the parade. Thanks to the Sam Houston ROTC for coming out in the drizzle. Emcee Mattress Mack and Council Members Jerry Davis and Karla Cisneros welcomed everyone.
On October 9th the Mayor and City Council honored Harris County District Clerk Chris Daniel at City Hall. Without losing a day, Chris Daniel and his staff stepped up to respond to extensive flooding in several buildings with no loss of records from Hurricane Harvey. Quick actions were taken to find temporary locations for dozens of courts.
Gus Wortham Golf Course. Council Member Robert Gallegos hosted an open house for the community to check out the restored golf course on Saturday, October 6. This project would not have been possible without City Council’s unanimous support for the agreement with the Houston Golf Association.
Honoring Sandra Massie Hines for the work she has done as Mayor of Sunnyside. This annual event allows seniors the chance to dress up and get out for a nice lunch with friends and receive gift baskets to take home with them.
I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with so many neighbors who turned out for National Night Out. My thanks to Kashmere Gardens, Sunnyside, and folks at Cloverland Park for their hospitality.
The three year reconstruction is complete at 1906 Cleburne Street for H.I.S.D.'s Young Women's College Preparatory Academy. The magnet program focuses on College Readiness and S.T.E.M. Offered are Dual Credit classes which allow high school students to simultaneously earn high school and college credit. Congratulations.
Good crowd and beautiful weather on the north side for Cigna Sunday Streets Houston. This is an initiative to promote and improve the health of Houstonians. Cigna Sunday Streets Houston opens a stretch of streets normally reserved for cars and other vehicles to allow cycling, walking, dancing, socializing and provides a family-friendly opportunity to be physically active.
I toured Change Happens which is a community-based non-profit in Third Ward. They provide programs and services to empower people to help themselves. Nice to see the hard working faces behind the scenes.

Dedication of the brand new library at Jack Yates High School in Third Ward. Thank you to the cheerleaders and marching band for the lively entertainment.
Mayor Turner and City Council paused to thank KHOU Channel 11 with a proclamation to recognize the extreme difficulty faced losing their station on Allen Parkway to Hurricane Harvey. They are building a new home near the Galleria and have opened a second studio in the George R. Brown Convention Center. GM Susan McEldoon and anchor Mia Gradney represented Channel 11.
Thank you Houston Astros for another thrilling season. No, we didn't make it to the World Series, but you have raised the profile of our great city once again by bringing the national spotlight to Houston. You rolled up your sleeves and worked food lines and raised untold millions of dollars for the Harvey relief effort. You are all winners in every way. Enjoy the downtime, get some rest, because spring training is just a few months away.  #NeverSettle
